Engineered by Geraint Jones There may have only been 3 tracks recorded for this session, and judging from the playlists Adam also played the entire debut EP by Pocket Venus.”
“Pocket Venus, the songs were big and bold, but the new incarnation swaps the plagiaristic primary colours of yore for subtle hues that burn bright in the ear. They released their debut EP [Make It Through Your Day] earlier this year on Rhyl-based indie 'Secrets of Sound'. John Peel played it. Mark Radcliffe played it. Heck, even I played it! Such was the response that the EP is now receiving a re-release on July 15thÖ as singer Chris Yates elucidates, Specialist radio shows all over the country, including Jo Whiley's, are really keen on the single. We've also managed to secure distribution, so people who hear it can now go out and buy it from their local record shop, rather than going through the hassle of mail-ordering it from us.”
“22.07.2002 - Pocket Venus debut EP Through Your Day is officially released & aired on Mark Radcliffe's Radio 1 show. ”

“Pocket Venus - "Make It Through Your Day" If this 4-song EP is any indication of things to come then I'm hot for more because these guys have the makings of a killer band. Pocket Venus incorporate elements of space rock and psychedelia into what is really a solid kick ass rock band. The opening track, "Through Your Day", reminded me of Porcupine Tree with its acoustic guitar, gorgeous electric guitar licks, and trippy synths. Very nice. "Rollercoaster" is another great song with killer crashing guitars. These guys do a great job of backing their songs with excellent music. "Like You" opens ballad style but with bubbling space synths and a slow guitar that builds the intensity level. "Like You Too" is an instrumental follow up to "Like You" that goes into kick ass rock heaven with shimmering, wailing, and screaming guitars and symphonic keys. A beautiful blend of space, psychedelia, and blow-your-face-out rock music. Recommended.”
“Pocket Venus - "Tell Me Why" Honestly, if I could choose one band to release a full length it would be Welsh rockers Pocket Venus, whose Make It Through Your Day CDEP captivated myself and many of my radio show listeners (judging by the feedback I received). The band have a potent sound that is highly accessible but includes elements of psychedelia and progressive rock. The CD includes 3 songs and is only 11 minutes long, but Pocket Venus make their statement clearly and memorably. "Tell Me Why" is a powerhouse rocker with a well produced heavy wall of guitar sound, acidic but melodic licks, and passionate vocals. "Told You Why" is a kick ass jam tune with cool wailing guitars and head pounding drums. And "Save It All" is an easy paced melodic song that is listed as being as demo. Yeah, I'm waiting... wanting... a full length from Pocket Venus.”
“POP band The Bluetones were caught up in a fracas with another group at a North Wales North Wales (known in some archaic texts as Northgalis) is the northernmost unofficial region of Wales, bordered to the south by Mid Wales and to the east by England. concert. The top 10 band, famous for their hit song Slight Return, were involved in a heated row with North Wales band Pocket Venus at Bangor University Bangor University (Welsh: Prifysgol Bangor) is a university based in the city of Bangor in the county of Gwynedd in north Wales. . The Llandudno band were unhappy when they were told their support slot was to be cut short and that they would have to appear on stage before the doors opened to the public. The row turned into an ugly scuffle between the North Wales band and the chart band's entourage.”
“Ten years ago music in north Wales was in a very different place to now. It was much more band-orientated, the kind of technology that allows the likes of DJ Switch to assemble thumping drum n bass in his bedroom, send it to Radio 1 and get airplay on Fabio & Grooverider was still nascent. Apart from little sparks of success - Big Leaves and Pocket Venus getting Single of the Week accolades on Radio 1, Tystion doing similarly in Melody Maker - nothing managed to burn bright enough to earn recognition beyond the area's borders. Until Melys, that is. ”
