“Papa Satch 'Open dreams' (Independent/USA Import) Open dreams is the 3rd album of Papa Satch, a multi-instrumentalist from New York. Except for the playing by Phil Kennelty on Keyboards, he played all instruments himself on this album. In the past Papa Satch was a member of bands like Black Horizon, Blank Stare, Mercy Hit and Spoof, but is now trying to breakthrough as a solo musician. Vocally he has some limitations in range and sounds quite modest, like a JJ Cale meets a thin sounding Tom Petty, but musically speaking we are surprised with a mixture of alternative pop/rock and a lot of 70s westcoast/American Yachtpop, which makes it very interesting to listen to. Highlights are I Know (bluesy rocker), Steal Your Pain (uptempo Bruce Springsteen ish heartland rocker), Cold Day (Say Why) (calmer 1970s westcoast/yachtpop ish), Oh Sara (even a bit uptempo classic AOR a la Benny Mardones, but vocally as already mentioned more like JJ Cale), Walk Alone ..........”
