...and all in german!
Since her brilliant CD release concert in 2009 in Germany at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart, Mona Suzann enthralls with her extraordinary cross genre mixture of fusion jazz with German lyrics. She surprised her audience in Dresden at the jazz festival, her «Monamentaljazz» was released on an U.S. compilation and – 800 competitors left behind – she convinced the critical selection committee of the German Rock & Pop Award 2010. Mona Suzann, the vocal beauty from Stuttgart with Eastern European roots, is on her way to the champion’s league of jazz – no doubt about it.
The fascinating interplay of these likeable musicians, touching lyrics of lived life and Mona's expressive, shimmering contralto and impressive range has been compared by critics with jazz and soul legends like Dianne Reeves, Cassandra Wilson and Anita Baker, – all that shows: this is music at a high level. It’s no accident that «Monament», her debut album recorded at Bauer Studios sets “a new standard in vocal jazz” for connoisseurs. And who attended a concert of this charismatic artist, certifies: such a presence at a singer wasn’t seen for long time.
It’s a brave attempt and an accomplishment to bring together the two musical worlds Fusion Jazz and the German lyrics. The excellent backing band is made up of the guitar players Stefan Grossekathoefer and René Kastler, both ensuring maximum string tension, the drummer Thomas Keltsch and the bass player Patrick “Paco” Mueller, two of the most accomplished german rhythm specialists. They are doing their part to create those musical masterpieces – to create «Monamentaljazz».
Peers and business partners swoon over her music: “A never before seen synthesis of poetry and demanding compositions, an enrichment of the European scene”, said jazz pianist Prof. Christoph Spendel. Johannes Wohlleben, producer and sound engineer in Bauer Studios remembers: “A nice concert and a successful evening!” and from around the world people are writing, like Brian, singer, producer, USA: “And now there is something that wasn’t here before, a soaring, rhythmic voice that reaches right into the soul – brilliant!”
The Power Lady Mona Suzann runs her own vocal performance school in Stuttgart and is successful as a Business & Music Coach. Her constantly growing community of fans is convinced: this original synthesis is excitingly different that what you normally hear in vocal jazz – lively, exciting, “funky” – monumental jazz, in fact.
