Hi there Folks
Today we are going to talk about something very important and that is investing in yourself .
We have constantly found that in todays climate artists rarely, if every, invest in their music anymore .
Our general experience is that artists feel that home made recordings handed out or posted randomly ,doing the odd open mic or battle of the bands and asking professional music people to help them for nothing is enough effort to get noticed .
From what we hear from the music professionals ie labels etc this is simply not enough .
Industry nowadays whats things as easy as possibe and are more likely to chase artists who are already making an impression and appear to be a sure fire thing .
In order to get notice it is still an advantage to have 2 or three songs recorded really well with serious professionals as doing it yourself rarely yields a result that is noticed . It is a mistake for the majority of artists to think that thjey know how to do this correctly as in our experience we have heard thousands of tracks over our careers and as yet we have not heard an artist get this bit right early on in their career .(Yes there have been a few but we have not heard them so its unlikely to be you )
Secondly unless you are amazing at your own P.R. etc and you will know this as if you are you will be getting results .
You will most likely need a professional to help you and again in todays climate they will probably require you to pay them to some degree as they cannot pay their living expenses on promisies that you will make good when your famous
so be fair and use professionals correctly .
If you really want to get your music on it will require some investment on your part and a lot of effort if your not prepared to do this then dont expect to much in terms of results .
We can cover loads on this topic so if you need to know how to go about this sensibly without going over board on expenditure and having a reasonable but affordable plan please do get in touch and ask us for our opinion we will gladly give it on this point .
Cheers til next month

Firstly thanks to success in music two of our artists have attracted the attention of legendary producer Colin Leggett who is now looking to work with both acts . Colin has a huge track record and as a freelance producer, has workded in the studio with among others Carron Wheeler (Soul To Soul), Movement 98 (Rob Davis/Paul Oakenfold), The Nubiles(Chrysalis), The Real People(EMI), Introvenus(Creation) and taking the first Mercury prize winning Primal Scream to Screamadelica, with the recordings of "Come Together" and "Movin On Up" , a seminal moment in the British music industry.
Secondy we are currently looking at representaion with track record companys for five of our members more details to follow shortly .
We have also started the ball rolling on securing one off single releases for artists with a uk label and hope to have our first release at the end of the year ..

Today we are going to talk about the biography.
On of the reasons we are dedicating a full news letter to this subject is because of the amount of artists who just plain get it wrong.
When writing a biog its important to keep it short and sweet sticking to the facts and letting the biography speak for itself .the simplest biogaraphys a brief description of the band and what they sound like.
This should be no more than three to four lines don’t get in to how the band formed or what great music you play or how excited you are to be playing your first big gig as it comes across as an amateur band with no story and looking for things to say.
Bands that are doing well don’t need to talk about themselves and do big gigs all the time
And don’t get excited when they get a good gig it’s just another gig and it’s expected that they are getting this kind of gig all the time.
Do try to talk about what your doing i.e. single coming out .
Album coming out. Size of fanbase . Name drop anyone you have worked with.
List of gigs.
And included any short and sweet comments that press or industry may have said about you.
This is called third party testimonial and is extremely effective in impressing someone.
Always make out like your busy and on the road all the time gigging and building a fan base.
Avoid saying you’ve won competitions just stick to pushing the great gigs you do.
Try not to describe yourselves as amazing rather try and describe your music as genre based and make sure the description fits what you are if you write more than four lines your writing to much and people don’t have time and wont read it .
It short your biography should be no longer than this newsletter
Any questions

In the really real world of radio T.V. and media this is done by continous messages aired to the general market of the given media ,with the hope that some of their audience will be yours .
However the one massive downside to this for the struggling musician is
Its super expensive .
Thanks to the internet though and all the neat ideas people have come up with to exploit it such as, facebook etc, we can now target our audience online relaitvly cheaply and, what it used to cost us to hire a P.R. guru for six weeks, we can now operate online for the same money and probably get a whole years campaign .
One of the key aspects to internet marketing campaigns is the viral marketing concept which is a fancy computor marketing term for bacisally word of mouth .
The principle is simple and most people understand how to run crude versions of it (Although many of them make one fatal mistake ,which often makes them lose faith in the idea thinking it’s the flaw of the viral campaign and not realising it’s a fundemental mistake that they are making) .
Any way with viral marketing the idea is that we ask our target audience to spread the word to others they know and help create a bigger awareness of our exsistance and gradually build our fan base .
One of the most common examples of this is the share button on face book .
In the really real world of marketing a concept for music was developed some years ago called street teams this was where an artist would hire some “on the ground” promotional peole to assist with instores .
When the artist was playing instore and releasing his /her new record, the street team would run around the shop punters and encourage them to buy the track there and then .
This had an significant impact on sales and often assisted in charting the artist .
How ever with the demise of the record store as we know it everything went online .
In the online world street teaming is relatively new and consist of you asking your fan base to help you obtain some marketing goal you have and in return you give them an incentive.
For example, you might ask them to help you pre-sell your next album so you can record it and you promise them a signed copy plus maybe a free gig in the highest street teamer score with free entry to anyone they encouraged to be involved in the campaign .
This has, on occasion, lead to many artists been able to raise much neede finance for their next project. In fact ,there are a number of websites who assist in promoting this idea Slice the Pie been one of them .
One of the best places to organise a street team is within a Reverbnation account .
You can set up an amazing data base of all your fans and you can ask them to become street team members you can then set various missions for them (as they are called on reverb )and send them out as your very own online marketing army .
This is a really nifty idea and we have filled l many a show using the above methods .
Any way hopefully this has been useful to you guys and until next month , good luck with your music .
P.S. if you want to know more and want detailed methods of how to go about all the above .

as usual it takes someone else to spell it out for me! Yes, my home recordings lack luster.. not that i've been sending any out! Due to the fact i've been doing everything myself.. and i'm not up to scratch.. i've given up on open mic nights etc and settled down to the task of auditioning for musicans who will challange me! personally i think this is the only step forward.. I will be in touch before the new year! Thanks!
