Darren Ockert's #YouDontKnowMe Project, A Call To Action Against Stereotypes

Think you know Darren Ockert? Think again. The British born, Miami based dance pop artist just launched the #YouDontKnowMe project and accompanying music video, a call to action to anyone who has ever felt unfairly judged based on appearances.

The first single from Ockert's forthcoming album, Short Story Long, "You Don't Know Me's" video premiered on Logo's New Now Next. Though the track sparkles with peppy twinkling loops, crisp production and synths, catchy, uplifting melodies, and danceable beats, lyrically, the song touches on the pains of being in the public eye and the struggles of warding off false assumptions.

In this new, interactive #YouDontKnowMe project, Darren Ockert calls upon anyone who has ever felt misunderstood or unfairly judged based on how they appear. Inviting people to post videos sharing personal stories of overcoming prejudices, Ockert hopes that this project can help to destroy stereotypes and help people realize that we are more alike than we are different.

MusicDishTV Presents Norwegian Electronic Band Harlequins Enigma's "Moon Phase"

Harlequins enigma, an electronica band hailing from Norway, showcased a near-psychedelic music video for its single, "Moon phase", off of their fourth album, Stargazer. Trippy, and intentionally offbeat, the video takes you on a journey across the universe.

The MV for "moon phase" is extremely simple and straightforward. Pictures of constellations, galaxies, comets, and other celestial bodies are show. The editing is rather rough, but this forces the viewer into the endless space depicted in the video and evoked in the band's music. Each picture is more astounding than the last, leaving viewers awed at the universe's unrivaled beauty.

With exaggerated synth chords and distortions, the single itself reflects the universe's mysterious allure. The single's hallowing sounds are doubled by the haunting echoes. When the listener closes his or her eyes, he or she is truly no longer in this world.

Founded in 2008, harlequins enigma is from Bergen in Norway. Since 1991, the members have experimented with music using amiga 500 & tracking software. Their music are mainly based on 8-bit 16-bit values.

CD Release: Monty Alexander 'Uplift 2' JLP

JAZZ LEGACY PRODUCTIONS CD RELEASE: UPLIFT 2 Monty Alexander

Jamaica is known for the undulating sounds of reggae, but it also contributed mightily to the jazz continuum. Dizzy Reese, Ernest Ranglin, and Harry Beckett are from Jamaica, but perhaps the island's best-known jazz export is Monty Alexander, a pianist that's been enthralling jazz fans for decades. Alexander's 2011 album Uplift topped the JazzWeek chart twice that year—and when JazzWeek charted the most-played CDs of the year, Uplift was #5. Between that CD and Harlem-Kingston Express Live, Alexander has officially dominated the US Radio Charts with three # 1 spots, all in the summer of 2011. Harlem-Kingston Express (Motema, also 2011) was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Reggae Album category.

Born in Kingston 1944, the young Alexander took to the 88s as something of a prodigy. One night at age five he had observed a pianist play "White Christmas" in his home at a Christmas party. His mother recalls seeing young Monty playing that same tune with both hands the very next night. At age eight he took classical piano lessons but he'd already began loving the American jazz and Great American songbook pop (Tony Bennett, Nat "King" Cole) he heard on the radio. As a teenager, seeing Nat "King" Cole and Louis Armstrong perform had a major impact upon him. He'd also become interested in Jamaican music—Alexander would play with Clue J & His Blues Blasters, substituting for their regular pianist Aubrey Adams when he became unavailable. While few could conceive of it at the time, this band would prove to be a major watershed in Jamaican music history, incubating the talents of not only Alexander but Ernest Ranglin, Rico Rodriguez, and Roland Alphonso, all who'd go on to become prime movers in Jamaican ska, rocksteady, and reggae. By the end of 1961, Alexander's family relocated to that land of opportunity, the USA, where he further honed his skills. While playing with Art Mooney's orchestra in Las Vegas, he was spotted by a couple of high rollers, namely Frank Sinatra and Ermenigildo "Jilly" Rizzo, singer/show business legend and Sinatra's pal/aide and New York City club owner, respectively. Rizzo hired Alexander to be the house pianist for Jilly's Saloon, a notorious hang-out for show biz types, jazz musicians, and assorted other hip clientele. Not only did he accompany Sinatra when he performed at Jilly's, but Alexander met a jazz legend there that became both a friend and employer, vibes master Milt Jackson (of the Modern Jazz Quartet, who had a parallel solo career). Other singers Alexander has shone behind include Mary Stallings, Ernestine Anderson, Natalie Cole (who asked Alexander to accompany her on her tribute album to her father Unforgettable), Tony Bennett, and Bobby McFerrin. Furthermore, he played with ace of the bass Ray Brown and trumpet titans Dizzy Gillespie and Clark Terry. From the 1970s on, Alexander took the jazz world by storm with a series of internationally well-received albums on the European MPS and American Concord and Telarc labels.

"At the end of the day," Alexander says, "it's about touching somebody's heart." Uplift 2 succeeds in that spectacularly, while it also takes up residence in the mind (including that region that controls the tapping of your foot). Without fanfare or pretense, Monty Alexander continues to celebrate the aspects of directness and delight in jazz. "It's a joy and a privilege to come out of the gate and get to the point!," says Alexander. Need proof? Listen, learn, and love.

PAp Records Signs Keri Lynn Roche And Releases Debut Single "Generation Kill"

PAp Records announced the recent signing of its latest artist, Season 12 American Idol contestant Keri Lynn Roche. Under PAp's management, the 23-year old singer-songwriter recorded her debut single, "Generation Kill", which will be released on major online outlets such as iTunes and Amazon on March 25.

The American Idol contestant earned a trip to Hollywood after her breakthrough performance during a show taped in Chicago involving a cover of Patsy Cline's 'Walking After Midnight'. "Randy Jackson told me 'I see you selling platinum records,'" Roche noted. "That was really cool to hear because I've worked really hard at this." Attracted by Roche's talent, the Rhode Island-based record company added the Birmingham native to their already impressive selection of artists covering all music genres, including Hip-hop, Pop, Alternative, and Jazz.

The soon-to-be released "Generation Kill" showcases Roche's amazing talent and testifies to Idol judge Randy Jackson's praise of her skills. In "Generation Kill", Roche sings in a tongue-in-cheek fashion and satirizes the ridiculousness of contemporary culture. "Makes me ill/Generation Kill/ I don't wanna/but I think I will." With a medium tempo and a light, catchy piano riff, the pop single carries clear influences from folk and country. Possessing great range and power, however, Roche's incredible vocals are the clear star of the show.

Meltdown By Code Indigo Is A Contemporary Instrumental Rock

Code Indigo is regarded as one of Europes premiere electronic music bands and with MELTdown, they've delivered an apt follow up to their 2007 release Chill that takes a lyrical swipe at the global economic meltdown.

The band continues its tradition of producing imaginative and thematic keyboard/guitar based electronica and chill-out music.

While comparisons have been made with instrumental Pink Floyd and Art of Noise, the Code Indigo sound and style remains totally original, unique and above all, contemporary.

MELTdown is an epic, concept style musical journey. There are 16 beautifully conceived and highly evocative interlinked tracks that cleverly pay homage to all previous Code Indigo albums while remaining inventive and original.

It is moody and topical electronica featuring some of the most atmospheric and thought provoking chill out style instrumental music youre likely to hear anywhere.

Helmed by veteran UK synth maestro David Wright, co founder and sole survivor from the original 1994 line-up, and producer Dave Massey, the new look Code Indigo is completed by Neil Fellowes (aka Geigertek) on keyboards, and guitarists Nigel Turner-Heffer and Dave Bareford.

Code Indigo will premiere MELTdown at the e-day festival in Oirschot, Holland on 6th April 2013.

Naama Kates Releases Video For New Single "King For The Day"

Singer-songwriter/pianist Naama Kates recently released the music video for her newest track, "King for the Day", taken off of her sophomore full-length album on her official Youtube page. Directed by Luis Aguirre, the video is extravagant, provocative, and layered with dark wit. It serves as the perfect accompaniment to the wonderfully realized single.

Corresponding to the single's message about being "King for the Day", the video features a ravishing Kates dressed in a lavish evening dress singing. A suited man appears from time to time and pampers Kates with gifts and gestures, making her a true "king". As the video draws to an end, however, we are forced to recognize the superficiality of these objects. The exaggerated backdrop is taken down to reveal a rundown alley, while the man takes back his gifts, leaving Kates looking helpless.

The single itself is a classy blend of blues, jazz, and pop. With the help of Mike Richardson on the trombone, John Carfi on bass, and Rich West on drums, Kates records a gorgeous piano arrangement. Her exuberant vocals give the poetic lyrics a high level of sincerity and power. Grammy-nominated producer Scott Fraser (Kronos Quartet) recorded, engineered and mastered. Like all the other songs on her sophomore album, "King for the Day" was recorded in a single take.

Naama Kates began composing and singing at an early age. Upon her arrival in Los Angeles in 2009 she began working on her debut record "The Unexamined Life" which was released in 2012 to critical and commercial success. Her sophomore album, "King for the Day" will be released on March 12, 2013.
