Here is the Q&A I had with Robyn Love of 1063mobileradio.com. This is the station that plays ONLY UNSIGNED INDIE HIP HOP & R/B! I would like to thank her again for accepting my interview. 1. Where do you see the station in 5 years?
I believe in 5 years the station will be mainstream for underground music. It will be the place to be for artists. Like a Soul Train; when you've been on Soul Train you know you have "arrived"!
2. What got you into radio?
I use to sing in a group of 5 others. It was fun but I had to deal with 5 others making business decisions and of course that became tricky. Long Story short, I wanted to do something that didn't need others to make it run but still dealt with music, so I chose radio. Really it chose me. ;-)
3. Why choose a format of unsigned/Indie hip hop and R&B?
Mainstream music is so saturated with bull****, frankly I'm offended and they are insulting my intelligence. I love my ppl and I wanted to give them a voice. I'd rather listen to truth than make believe.
4. As a fan of music which artists on your station do you think have what the major labels are looking for?
That's a good question, to be honest I can't answer that. I'm working so hard right now to the point, that I have not been able to actively listen to each artists. I'm looking forward to the day when I can sit back and listen and enjoy.. Right now I just want it to run for y'all! I want the foundation to be solid.
5. Would the station sponsor a show for the artists in rotation?
We have opportunities were an artists can take over the station for 30min. They can play their music, get interviewed, pretty much talk about whatever they want. However, that is promotion and it's not free. If anyone is interested in that, they can email me at interview1063rl@gmail.com. One thing I do want to say is, if you are a serious artist invest in yourself. If you won't spend money on your craft, why would somebody else?
6. Being a member of the site, it has a social network feel to the member's section. What is the reason behind this kind of design?
We wanted an interactive site were ppl could come network, post their video and other links. We want to support our artists and give them a platform where they can shine. Also, I can't take all the credit, the brains behind it all is the owner Tony.
7. How can an artist utilize the site to the fullest?
Well I would tell the artists to take advantage of the social media tools. We can help you get your numbers up on all social media sites. Also, I would take advantage of the interviews and the 30min segments. Every artist major or unsigned needs promotion. If no one knows your there, they won't know your there.. Lol. Serious Artists will take those extra steps to standout and we made it easy for the artist to do!

"What have you learnt this week that could help you help someone else this week?" This is a question #oomf (@rapidbi - business leadership from the UK) asks of all of his followers. I had to think about this. Here is what I have come up with:
** NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK! Be your own cheerleader & tell others about you & tell others about those artists you know! Your fans, My fans, Our fans! #sic #grind
** Social networks really help getting your name out to the public to make those important connections! Go to a couple of seminars...I just watched one produced by CDBaby & Taxi. Very informative & shit!
** This Music thing can be done independently with the right tools. Go find "Online Grind: Hip Hop Directory". I found it on ebay for just a few dollars! It is a resourceful tool! www.indiehiphop.net
** Find your niche! Can't stress this enough! The unique thing about you that makes YOU stand out from the crowd! Think about branding! What is your brand? Everyone does music but how do you stand out in the vast field of urban music? Yes I called it urban music...because even hip-hop and R&B have sub-genres!
** Having a hit song on the radio is not the only way to make big money in this industry! There is music everywhere! Even in that elevator with it's really bad muzak! Can you make it better? Wanna hear your music in TV, Film, Video Games? Can you sell your brand and make your mark?
** Connect & STAY connected! Keep in contact with and interact with the connections you make! Won't remember you in a week if I only spoke to you once! Happy Friday and I posted my twitter #FF this morning!!
** Show your love to those that show you love! #sic #grind #movement #ineffect
** Over 100 plays of any of your song over the internet in any one day (24hr period) is a GOOD THING!
