Finally 2016 plan of action can be set in motion

Welcome to the wonderful world of yet another mundayne week filled with nothing but petrol price increases for no valid reason and other baloney.

A few things we are able to look forward to if one pockets permit it, May brings IRON MAIDEN back to our hallowed land. I had the distinct privilege of seeing them in the year of 1995AD when they played Cape Town’s Good Hope Civic Centre. Firstly a mere 200 or so fans showed up and secondly the direct cause for the first point…Blaze Bailey from Wolfsbane was on the mic after Bruce Dickenson took time off from Maiden to start his own rather successful sideline project the Bruce Dickenson band.

So to say the show was a little lack luster from the get go was an understatement, seeing the geezers we had only ever seen on video and TV was great. But Blaze looked for the most part constipated and one could not shake the feeling we were a trial show to see what the response would be. Now don’t get me wrong Blaze fans I am not knocking the man on a talent level…his just not Bruce Dickenson (he who flies commercial planes, drives all kinds of Russian made tanks and runs the stage for up to 3 hours at a time). No sir the two can never be compared but taking over from a legend is never an easy task…unless your Paul Di’anno the original vocalist of Maiden. Talk about walking into a dream job from the get go only to stuff it up because of ego and bad attitude. For the youngsters he got fired and does not get a cent for any of the albums he appeared on due to his stubborn lack of business sense. Anyhoo enough of that off the topic drivel, what I am trying to say is I am over the moon SA will finally get to embrace Maiden with its favourite son Bruce firmly at the mic showcasing what a real metal vocalist should look like.

Then on to things on a more business angle, I recently stumbled upon a 3 disc compilation from the then Witchdoctor production group. It was compiled largely after the split of my first band Taim Sods (2000-2001) who pretty much watched one of the upcoming bands feature on that compilation. Ill System took the podium in the Cape Town scene as we literally stepped out view after making some waves…yeah we did a Paul Di’anno. They went on to go international and not sure what kind of a reaction they got there but if you search the name on Soundcloud you will find them there still (good job guys-and we still love what you do).

So essentially our ambition is to do the same kind of thing, creating disc compilations featuring some of the best finds on the indie circuit. This pertains to our UK, German, SA, Italy, Mozambique, Angola based crews. The project was meant to have launched this month but due to an interesting turn of events it seems an Indian connection has come up and is going to join our fold of FFR. The plan of action is to market the Indian based bands too and sell our compilations as far and wide as we possibly can. The end result we are aiming for is creating our own festival here in SA and a Indian based one more or less in the summer months. As we are able to cement partnerships to acceptable levels to swop out artists between the two fests. So SA artists go to India and those awesome Indian based bands come to our shores. Thereby exposing both parties to whole new markets for them to try and exploit as much as possible. Its all still a theory and we hope to get some willing partners onboard to assist us in steering this thing as it’s a little bigger than anything we are accustomed to.

While that sits and stews in a pot, our little radio show is busy securing the very best of indie to air to you. Since the concept was kicked into gear we fell behind in compiling the show and noticed just how much new material has come along and are now recompiling the show to that it is as fresh as possible for the massed to consume. Once it goes live we would greatly appreciate everyone and their grannys passing the link along so that we can gain traction in the world of online

Hello friends Its been a tough but fruitful 2014 up until this point and we have much to reflect on and be thankful and both remorseful for. Our (Rabbid Rabbit) track reflects the anger and defiance to submit no matter what the world throws our way. We truly hope you enjoy the diversity of it all and spread it on to others if you appreciate it any. Till the next post friends be well and always focus and send out those positive energies.
