DID YOUR GRANDMA BUY YOUR ALBUM?

I read somewhere that if you want more “likes” on Facebook, the most efficient way to get them is asking. When CatStar Promotion started out months ago, we did what we all deemed useful and right: we asked our families and friends to help us out. It just seemed so logical that those who are more or less close to you will help you out if you ask them to. The thing is, that is true only up to a certain extent. People will – maybe – like the page, but they will take their time, maybe forget, maybe deliberately not do so. Same story when it came to making the website. Out of the many web designers we count among our friends, very few had the time to look at the draft we had made and provide us with feedback. Someone even told us he’d “rather not be associated with something so poorly designed”. Well, it wasn’t the association we were asking for, just friendly advice. And during the following months it became clearer and clearer that there are very few people who are genuinely interested in helping you out. It was often those who could have helped the most who apologized or postponed, those who just had to take the time to talk to you for ten lousy minutes to set you on the right tracks. The bottom line is: emerging as a band, an artist or a business means getting used to rejections, because they come across far more often than acknowledgement and praise. Persistence and, well, patience are crucial. Nevertheless, this experience made us at CatStar Promotion realize one thing: if we can lend a helping hand, provide a tip, share some advice – we will. We don’t push for selling, we don’t act too important or busy to get back to anyone. This is why we launched this blog. If you’re trying to promote your band or business, you probably know it already: it’s not easy and it takes a lot of effort. I remember an interview on MTV when I was a teenager, the vj asked whether the new album was selling well and the musician said: “Not really, it sold something like 5 copies, which means my parents, siblings and my grandma”. That’s what I mean. Support doesn’t come easy, but it is also a nice reality check. We hope you’ll enjoy our blog and feel free to share/ask anything we or other bloggers might help you with. We encourage our bloggers and readers to share their experiences. If it doesn’t enlighten anyone, hopefully it still makes a good read.
