How goes it fellow metal heads?!?!
For those of you without a pulse, this past sunday (july 31st) was the (i believe) fourth annual Rockstar Engery Drink Mayhem Festival. As I have done every year since its creation I attended. :)
This year presented some very awesome non-main stage acts. First and foremost, MACHINE FUCKING HEAD was there!!! They were my deciding reason for going this year. The second decider was Straight Line Stitch. I had also found out that In Flames was playing so they kinda of sealed the deal. To be perfectly honst if it werent for these bands being I wouldnt have even bothered. With that said, I was a little upset to find out that In Flames did not make it to our show :( but I got over it as soon as Machine Head started playing :D
Last year presented some disappointment for me in the Mayhem Festival. Though, as usual, the second stages were rockin, the main stage hasnt really presented anyone that makes me wanna hump the air, as was the case with the first couple of years. This year's main stage had only one band I wanted to see (and not even a strong desire to see)...Trivium. While Megadeth is legendary, they've never really been my cup of rum. and I had absolutely no desire to see Godsmack or Disturbed. Saw Disturbed a previous year....that was enough. lol
We did discover a new band (to us) that we enjoyed, Kingdom of Sorrow. This band consists of members form Crowbar, Down and Hatebreed (Jamey Josta) and totally rocked out. We did catch a little of Unearth's set while we were waiting for Machine Head and we had an awesome time paying waaaay to much for bad beer lol
Overall our personal experience was great. We had a good time. However it was kind of sad that for the second year in a row, I opted to leave before the main stage was over. And this year I left right after the first band (Trivium). I think Rockstar needs to find some new headliners :(

Hey All!!!
Sorry this review is going up so late...school, work, man...all seems to come first to reviewing. SUCKS!! ANYWHO!!!
Saturdays A Perfect Circle show at the Festival Pier on the Philadelphia Waterfront was PHENOMENAL to say the least. They played a great mixture of songs from all their albums including aMotive (the remix album) and eMotive (the cover album). I was excited to hear "Count Bodies Like Sheep", from eMotive, my favorite version of "Pet". I was also pretty stoked about hearing "Magdalena" and "Fiddle and the Drum".
Maynard was orgasmic as expected. He sang every song with the exception of a couple covers where he let guitarist Billy Howerdel belt out. Maynard's talent is truly a spectical to see in person. His voice never missed a note, never cracked once and his presense was comanding. He didn't do much commentating, as many artists do when they play live, but simply let the music move the crowd. His movements on stage (stomping his feet, swaying, and head banging in that creepy yet captivating way that he does) showed that he too was feeling the rhythm of their music and enjoying it along with their fans.
This was the first time I'd ever seen APC perform live outside of YouTube videos and I have to say it was everything I expected it to be, right down to the estranged all female Japanese opener and opera musical while waiting for the band to grace the stage. People were talking about the performance from the second it was done and throughout the walk to the parking lots. It was one of the greatest performances I have been privileged to witness.

BLACK TIDE IS BACK!!!! New Album out August 23rd. They will be in the area on August 26th promoting via the Rockstar Energy Drink festival, this year named the Uproar Festival. I really wish they would stop changing the name of this concert! :-\

SEETHER has released a new album, "Holding onto Strings Better Left to Fray". Revolver Magazine says "recalls 'Purple'-era Stone Temple Pilots". They also mention that "Held together by Shaun Morgan's alternative gritty and smooth vocals, 'Holding Onto Strings' should forever distinguish Seether from all the cliched radio-rock schlock flooding the airwaves." IM PRETTY PUMPED!!
Black Label Society has just released an acoustic disc!!! Said to be country-esque by Revolver but still holds true to the bands outstanding musicianship.
NEW INFLAMES ALBUM!!! "Sounds of a Playground Fading" highly anticipated album, recorded without founding guitarist Jesper Stromblad. This album is said to jump inline with previous release "From Route to Remain". LOOK FORWARD TO THAT TOO!! See them this summer at mayhem.
A PERFECT CIRCLE IN TOWN THIS WEEKEND!!!....and I will surely be there. Sus Center in camden...if you're not they're....you should just end it all!! JK...its gonna be an awesome show and I will blog about it afterwards :D
BadAss Metal Bitch quote I had to share: "You obviously know the difference between 'femme hard rock' and 'tampon rock'. Tampon rock consists of girls who are nothing more than a short skirt prettying-up a band - talentless fluff. femme hard rock is powerful women fronting hard-rock bands. we are hell in heels; we are grit and sex but with the chops to back it up." ...i thought it was pretty bad ass
PS!! I wont be updating this blog as frequently as I have in the past few hours...probably weekly or as time allows. ENJOY! :D

Just watched the video for the title release of the new Trivium album "In Waves". You can view that video via YouTube: http://youtu.be/0Xfvk028Kv0
Now I do have a couple things to say. I have been aTrivium fan since their debut on Roadrunner with "Acendency". I have heard (and do own) Embers to Enferno, so I do know how the bands sound has evolved. If this track is indeed a sample of the album to come (Aug 9th), then I am pleased. The musicianship is outstanding and keeps them held to their reputation of outstanding musicians. However I cannot say the same about the lyrics. In fact I am some what disappointed.
A friend of mine had mentioned to me on facebook, that this album is suppose to be more artisitc and I definitely see that. This article form Blabbermouth confirms their efforts to not simply have an album but a project that connects their stage show, their album and their videos into one giant artistic effort.

However lyrically, I see no art in this song. Matt is simply repeating the same verse and hook over and over. The video BEAUTIFUL!! The music BRAVO!! but the lyrics not so much. If this is how the rest of the album is going to be then it will probably collect dust with Shogun in my center consul compartment.
Again, I love Trivium!! And am pumped to see them at Mayhem and eager to hear their new album. I do see the attempt at art in the vid and cover art and I see the graphic novel side mentioned in Blabbermouth and in an interview with Matt in Revolver Magazine (July/August 2011). In Revolver he doenst talk about the album much but does talk about what he has been reading lately (including one pretty sacreligious yet bad ass graphic novel about the apocolypse) so I can see where the inspiration for the album came from.
The bottomline is we shall see. So until August 9th all :)
