HANDS DOWN THE BEST SHOW I HAVE BEEN TO THIS YEAR

JULY 7, 2012 Epic doesn’t even begin to describe the throw down Threat Con Radio sponsored this weekend in Sacramento for Fallrise’s CD Release Party. The mass migration From Oregon had been in planning mode for months before the big day actually hit. It’s a rare thing to hear thirty people are going to make a six hour drive to hear unsigned bands break out some music. Then again, it’s just as rare to find bands that feed off of each other’s energy the way Tallboy and Fallrise do. Watching these two acts set fire to a venue one right after another is the same as being bathed in pure metal goodness. Tallboy broke out the goods right from the get with Juice Box. It wasn’t long before the previously standoff locals filled the pit to get a closer look at this crazy f*cking band that was making their heads rock. Sacramento said hell yeah to some Tallboy as Jimmy riled the pit up with his presence and screamed at the crowd from on top of the bar. Angel leaned over the railing, rattled us with his bass and made the kid standing next to me lose his everloving mind. It’s safe to say Tallboy’s fan base grew substantially well before they were hit in the face with the final song Tommy Gun. It was a fight to keep my spot front row and center when Fallrise started to gather on stage. The fans all around me were whistling and calling out to the band relentlessly. When the lights dimmed you could feel the room swell with appetence for the succulent music we were about to absorb. During the first song Back From the Dead, a back and forth between the guitars and bass was played that knocked me over the head and took me captive. From that point on I was completely lost inside the audio that was bleeding from the sound system. Every song played was just as good as the last from beginning to end. The Back From the Dead Release Show is without a doubt the best show I have been to this year.

EDFEST 20K12

After the long tormenting wait, Sumerian got back on stage and went right to work like there was never an interruption. Brian Neal’s debut has been highly anticipated by all the local junkies. The first time I spoke with Brian, he brought a great deal of confidence to our conversation about his capabilities as a drummer. Well…turns out dude was telling the truth. Screaming Indian approves \m/ Tyler threw a few melodic verses in on the vocals that worked out very nicely in the new songs. I am psyched these guys are up and running again!! FALLRISE! FALLRISE!! FALL~F*CKING~RISE!!! The sounds that this band makes gives me the tingles. They each exude passion for their music from their pores the entire time they are performing. People were willing to stomp in four inches of standing water the ENTIRE set to get a taste of their tunes. Fallrise judo chopped Edgefest right in the throat and f*cking killed it! I LOVE ME SOME LIDLESS EYE! It’s unfortunate the rain chased off a great deal of the crowd before they could hit the stage. Those sissies missed out on a savage performance. The new stuff was FIERCE!! I say this with all the love in the world…… HURRY UP WITH THE NEW ALBUM ALREADY F*CKERS!!! I cannot wait to hear it!

SINISTER SCENE 5/11/2012

A year ago, almost to the day, Sinister Scene paid their first visit to Southern Oregon. Since that show, "This Isn't About You" has been in constant rotation in my disc changer. I have banged my head and belted their lyrics in my car on damn near a daily basis. When given the opportunity to travel to Nevada to see them play live again with Tallboy, I was all about it. Like a fighter making an entrance for the title bout, Sinister Scene entered the stage with ferocity and never let up the entire set. They rocked the songs from the debut album, giving me goosebumps through My Murder and Just One More. The new songs are devilishly tasty with heart pounding bass, tantalizing vocals and savage guitar riffs that will leave you YEARNING for more. With such an insanely epic stage performance it's safe to say, Sinister Scene is the Shakespeare of Metal.

......AND THE CROWD GOES WILD

AND THE CROWD GOES WILD 3/09/2012 I showed up to Johnny B's in Medford, Oregon around 9:30pm, intentionally very late. The local dive bar isn't known for it's impecable service nor vast crowds. Instead sadly, for a venue that's shows rarely start anywhere near the time advertised. A friend greeted me outside and informs me the the music hasn't even started. We snuffed our cigarettes then ventured into the dark seedy bar. I wish I could say I was surpised to find that the first act hadn't even really began setting up. A brief glimse around was taken and a count of about a dozen was calculated spread through out the small space. The just decision was made to take a trip across the street to check out the former hot spot, Shenanigan's. A bar that once visited at that hour on a Friday night, normally would have had the promising beginnings of a night of mass people watching and drunken anarchy. It was a shock to see how barren the popular patio was. It looks as though both side bars had been closed. Leaving only the original bar, patio and night club functioning. After the stories of the way management conducted the care of the customers and musician's beside a few of my own personal experiences, the emptiness seemed long overdue. We took our tour to the club area so that newly gathered companions could enjoy in an over priced glass of beer. The club is a wide open space with a decent sized stage and a perfectly placed bar. There was a live Dj who was actually throwing down enjoyable tracks while adding a little of his own flare. We made it back to Johnny's to find the first musician was onstage. A chatty, long winded solo acoustic act was up followed by a set from a band called Fate's Medalion. It was well after 11pm when the band, SET IN STONE hit the stage. They wasted no time getting their tunes flowing. From the very first intro to the tail end of the show, my body never stopped moving to the 5 piece band from Saint Helens, Oregon. Crammed on a tiny stage, SET IN STONE tickled our ears with body rocking sounds and sent us home satisfied. I will be a repeat offender the next time SET IN STONE is at a venue near me.
