I'm the Voice of dead people.

So, I'm the interpreter of lost songs. I'm between the audience and my sense of the language they understand. We're constructed by the world to do particular things. We're constructed by the work we do. It's true and difficult. People kind of forget it because it's humiliating that we are made by others. It's not a happy thing. I'd rather be made by God. What forms us? What forms personality is class. And that means how you earn your living. As we produce music we produce our selves. How you work, for whom you work has a lot to do with who you Are. So class acts like a constraint in that way even on those we think of as a little freer from constraint because they're higher in the hierarchy. I'm reminded each day by my music that my personality doesn't matter and I am made and remade by that music for the interests and profits of others. My labor is taken from me well, actually, it isn't taken from me. I sell it. But the way that you sell it will make others more powerful over you. What about what we can imagine doing together? The collective power if each had a say in the shape of things. It's worth thinking about. What I need to do is put my self at the service of something much larger than myself. Years ago, when I was just starting out at Latin NY, I suddenly put down an issue with a story about musicians being ripped off and thought "Their way of doing things won't do." "These people running things live by the harm they do. Not by the good." Much trial and tribulation awaited me and I submitted to it. The Golden Age Of Salsa 1977: Uninterrupted disturbance of all social conditions Everlasting uncertainty and agitation. All that is solid melts into air. All that is holy is profaned. People are malleable enough to be made into workers for causes that have nothing to do with their own good ... their own survival. They are constructed towards ends that don't sufficiently serve their own survival or pleasure. And so we suffer our making. But if we could participate in that making it would be our greatest joy. El Extreme In Tribes Documentary

Tribes Stories: The Gangster Poet El Extreme Luis Chaluisan Amy Shand is producing a documentary for The New School on the blind guy (Steve Cannon) and Tribes past and present, she's looking for 1) poems/writing about or inspired by Steve/Tribes/LES 2) old footage and photos. Please email aeshand@gmail.com or send her a facebook message! Many thanks! Vignettes from the world of Tribes, a non-for-profit arts organisation run out of Steve Cannon's Lower East Side abode. There is no other place like Tribes, and with the increasing gentrification of the LES, there is slim chance that there ever will be. The diverse, inclusive, artistic community that keeps it alive through the never-ending stream of art exhibitions, installations, poetry readings, music nights... is a living, breathing homage to decades past - it's managed to retain its bohemian charm and artistic edge embodying the spirit of it's, now blind, 76 years young, founder Steve. Enjoy these 'takeaways' from the Tribes brown couch, and if you're ever in the neighbourhood, drop in and share your art.

Thanks to Maria Hernandez organizational skills, I have begun the process of moving back to Puerto Rico once the documentary "Rocker Roller Rican" is completed making the rounds of film festivals in the United States. My friends Eric Ayala and Linda Rodriguez support the idea of my relocating to Puerto Rico and I now have established contact with more than a 1000 musicians on the island www.reverbnation.com/luischaluisan

What is my plan about returning to Puerto Rico? The island has a rich musical tradition and Boricua Musicians are playing all types of music. Maria Hernandez has the Dominican Republic covered. Tina Chaluisan has the US Cultural scene in control. And Izzy Sanabria remains the main source international Salsa news. We feel having salsamagazine.com based in Puerto Rico will result in reporting on the next big thing in Latin music.

While my relocation to Mayaguez, Puerto Rico is set for 2016, I have already begun to communicate with musicians on the island. The town of Ponce is only an hour away by car from Mayaguez. Here's some information about the town: salsamagazine.com in Puerto Rico http://lnkd.in/dqWSM6u
