Just finished posting the lyrics to all of my songs. A lot of rappers make music strictly for the fame, money, and glamour that supposedly comes quickly from being an emcee. While I won't completely deny these as a part of my motives as well, music means much more to me than just these things alone. My last mixtape "Our Glass" had no filters, I wrote 100% about what I was feeling with no concern for what others may think or what type of following I was trying to build. While it felt good to be this true to myself, I soon realized the problem in my approach; I was courageous enough to write songs with no concern for other's thoughts but naive enough to want everyone to listen and like all of the music I was making. This backwards approach had me twisted for awhile and I began to get frustrated with the lack of traction in my music career. I knew I needed to adjust my style if I wanted to realistically have a chance to make a living with my craft: "Rap's not about money but I gotta pay rent / So rapping for free doesn't make sense/cents" (from my song Fate off the Our Glass mixtape). On my new mixtape, Breakfast, I aimed to write songs that have a mainstream-rap feel to them and also maintain a level of creativity and originality that represent the hip-hop I grew up listening too (A Tribe Called Quest, Mac Dre, Pharcyde, etc). You will hear lyrics about money/cash/girls but you will also hear an underlying positive message that promotes progression and unity with each other and within our communities. Long story short, Music means everything to me, check out the lyrics to my mixtape Breakfast and see for yourself. https://www.youtube.com/user/DemocSf/videos
