A few days ago, I bemoned the death of Harry Crews, the great southern gothic writer. Today, I mourn the loss of the great Levon Helm, drummer, singer/songwriter of The Band. This guy was the real deal and suffered from excessive integrity. RIP to another great.

Curt Olsen here of Oildale. This is my first blog entry and I hope you like it. I'd like to observe a moment of silence for Harry Crews, the southern redneck prose-meister who appeared in one of my favorite movies, "Searching for the One-Eyed Jesus." Harry died a few days ago. He was a true American character, straight out of the swamp. I'm saddened by the fact that his body of work will never get bigger. RIP Harry.
In another event, I'm going to Slim's tonight to see First Aid Kit, the two teenage Swedish sisters who sing like american folky/country types. Me and my friend Sean are going to see them. My wife says we are perverts. FAK were amazing on Conan earlier this week. So my two favorite bands right now are FAK and I See Hawks in LA. Check them both out!!! Want to see ISHILA too real soon.
