When I work for something, I know how valuable it is. I will try to appreciate the value of the gifts I receive as well.

We value most of the things we've worked hardest to get, whether it's a new car we've saved years to buy or the admiration of someone we know to be extremely demanding. "Yes," we say, "we did it. We've accomplished something."
This can be a good thing, because it encourages us to work hard. But we shouldn't forget to value those things we haven't had to work hard for; the love of a parent; the genorosity of a friend; the beauty of a summer's day. Our challenge is to notice and esteem all the blessings we receive, whether we've "earned" them or not.

Instead of letting fear overcome me, I'll use it to help me do better.

We don't need to be conquered by our fear. We can actually use it to help us to perform better. Few of us routinely engage in physical battles, but we all face battles of other sorts in the normal course of our lives. How do we confront the loss when an idea that management proposed isn't working? How do we give a presenttation in front of a group when we're filled with stage fright? Fear, if we let it, can paralyze us, Instead, why not use our fear to focus and motivate us? If were afraid to confront the boss, use this fear to formulate a stronger case. If we're nervous about speaking in front of a group, use this fear to prepare a better presentation.
