I'm all for the sake of making and playing rock & roll music. Whatever the future brings for my music in Heavy Sigma, I'm reluctant to choose the opportunities that are worth keeping. But for now, I'm doing this rock & roll thang as a recreational hobby as intended. It's not easy to make money as a musician, despite the people who go to your shows and download your mp3's online. Realistically, despite critical success as a rock & roll musician in some degree, I am in it for the passion of playing guitar and writing songs. Not so much doing it as a full-time career or job.

Thing is, I'm openly proud of my heritage. But I pretty much am not singing and playing/making music just strictly for my own people. As I discussed a few statuses earlier, I'm making and playing music for the sake of it and presenting it to real supporters or fans regardless of their race. While I'm not intending to break the color barrier or even expecting to, even if that were the case, I do this passion of mines for the human race man. It's my logical way of explaining my intentions as a musician and artist. To just go out and perform only for my own kind, is limiting myself and my potential options. It's like me strictly limiting myself just to play punk rock music in my band. Which hinders any potential growth as an artist.

Somehow in the 2000s, my music was barely making a bleep on radar. I was the underdog (which I still am) and most of my musical pursuits in the last decade, were playing catching up with the competition or nearly fading to obscurity. But shit man, despite them haters, my music started getting more exposure by Fall 2011. There's some buzz when the Patrick Lew Band is around.
Honestly, while I do feel I might not make it successful in the masses as a musician. Real talk, there's a sudden exposure and some critical acclaim I'm getting as a musician. I'm charting really high locally and nationwide as of now on the Internet, promoting my music in my spare time. There's some people who are digging the PLB Army. And I noticed, I'm becoming a miniature viral artist sort of. I don't even play live, and I do this as a hobby mostly. But there's some attention going on with the music I make or play, and it's garnering me more respect in the indies. If this was 2008, there be NO CHANCE in hell I'd make it as far as I did now on rock & roll Internet.
Sounds like Patrick Lew the musician is one of those unusual "strange" success stories.

Playing music is NOT a career path for me as far making a living and long-term benefits goes. Because logically, it's super difficult to be successful in the music industry. However, I DO play music because I am passionate about jamming and producing my own material at home. So long story short, I do music as a past-time hobby. Realistically, I make and save money with job salaries and some income.

Just a reminder, though playing music is just a favorite past-time hobby, my solo project HEAVY SIGMA just made it to #1 on the local Punk charts on ReverbNation for notable East Bay, CA bands/musicians from the Punk genre. NUMBER ONE BABY WITH A BULLET! Though music is only my hobby, that's pretty dope I made it to #1 on the charts. Beating out all the other Punk bands locally, with all due respect. :D

Patrick Lew and Faith Marie met on a free dating website and became a serious romantic couple despite long-distance separating one another, especially because of personal priorities in life. Lew and Dave Arceo met at Skyline College whilst Lew was taking a few music courses, and played together in the now-eponymous Band of Asians from the San Francisco post-hardcore scene. Prior to forming Heavy Sigma as a Patrick Lew solo project, with credited contributions with close ones musically, Lew was experiencing the sudden critical cult-like success and was playing music frequently in the Bay Area with the Grunge/Punk self-prolcaimed buzzworthy band the Patrick Lew Band. Brushing off the critical success and experiencing immense pressure from sudden cult-like fame for his music in the PLB Army, Lew decided to take a brief hibernation from the Patrick Lew Band to focus on other musical activity as an artist and rock guitar player. Aware of the overwhelming experience with how to follow-up the critically acclaimed "Murder Bay" recording with PLB while making music, Lew chose the other method of being a musician, by going more low-key in his approach to recording and marketing his music alone experimenting with more second-rate songwriting ideas and instrumentals. Which was the genesis of Heavy Sigma as a Patrick Lew solo project.
Heavy Sigma's material mainly consists of chaotically raw and unpolished produced music featuring unfinished musical ideas Lew experimented alone, feeling no need to record it with the Patrick Lew Band considering he felt it was not his best music as an artist and rock guitarist. A lot of Heavy Sigma's music is experimental post-rock, but dabbles with other styles closely associated with the Patrick Lew Band such as Grunge and Garage Punk. However, on the Heavy Sigma studio demo which was published and posted via Internet as of early 2012, many of the musical ideas wounded up becoming instrumental-only produced rock music. Lew's guitar playing skills were also at the time artistically challenging, as he felt his lead guitar playing sound was suffering on record given his experience and limitations as a musician. Many of the songwriting ideas that were rejected by the Patrick Lew Band in the music making process were given its presence in Heavy Sigma, which were still unfinished yet reasonably listenable post-rock/garage punk band recordings of Lew's music. Lew is pretty much, the only lone guitar player in Heavy Sigma, both in the studio and sporadically onstage for local gigs. With today's digital technology and computers with fast-speed Internet or WiFi, online collaboration between Lew alongside Faith Marie and Dave Arceo via webcam when making the music on Skype and social-media website juggernaut Facebook enabled some of Marie and Arceo's musical performances and contributions on record in the studio. Recording bits and pieces of the music in their own home studios and computers, emailing back the multitrack files via WAV to Lew so he could Frankenstein the music on record.
Between October to December 2011, Heavy Sigma began making music in the studio. It resulted in their recorded EP, Studio Demos 2012 (also known as Oddities). Which later after they finished making the music, was posted on the Internet as a free download on PLB-related band websites.
