Dove & Boweevil Band / Blog

August 2013 with Dove and Bo!

Autumn is in the air! You know that weird feeling when you can feel the shift...we still have a week or so until Sept and I'm hoping for an extended Summer but still I woke up and felt the prickly freshness of Autumn on the hairs of my arms. What a Summer, we've been to Maryport Blues Festival, rocked on a lorry trailer at Reepham Festival, written more songs and we've recorded a radio session in a converted meat locker at Old School Studios. Recording live together surrounded by bold 70s print curtains it has been a while since the original line-up has played together but we are glad to have Andy Cooper back with his new Hammond! We've had the fantastic Mojo on keys who has been writing with us and the delectable Clive Jones covering for Luke whilst Luke has been crawling from Festival to Festival with Killamonjambo. Expect to see Mojo and Clive back with us for Newark Blues Festival on Sept 6th. It's been nearly four years since Bo and I first played at Newark Blues Festival when we were playing on the Oli Brown Band Tour. I am glad to say we are back with the band. This month we also got to play with the wonderful Sefo Kanuteh on his African Cora! Wowee, what a sound, he was such an inspiring and calming guy and the mixture of African and Blues was mesmerising. In all that I took a few days off from emailing and rehearsing.. Originally we were going to have a week in Brighton, then a few days in Cambridge which became a couple of nights camping in Thetford and ended up being one night but a lot of fun camping in Wells! Plentyof Captain Morgan's and cans of cider and we managed to walk along the coastal path 6 miles to Blakeney! More news coming soon but DING DONG my friends are getting married and I've got shoes to buy! (apparently cowboy boots don't go with bridesmaid dresses! )

Dereham Blues Festival

Just over a year ago Stewart and Doreen Aitken went about setting up Norfolk Blues Society. What? You're going to driving all over Norfolk several times a month, I know you're from Scotland but Norfolk is BIG! Their dedication to Norfolk Blues was so strong that Norfolk is now very fortunate to have a buzzing blues community that we are proud to be a part of. Now, in the very centre of Norfolk, Dereham is having its very first Norfolk Blues Festival with as many blues bands from Norfolk that can be squeezed in one weekend. We've even been mentioned on Paul Jones Blues Show on Radio 2 AND Blues Matters Magazine so we may even get 'outsiders' come along to see what we have to offer and to take part in our vibrant blues scene. Can't wait! http://www.derehambluesfestival.org.uk/

Dutch barge blues

For years my father has been renovating and building his own barge. Always the quiet type I still can't believe he sailed it from Belgium to Holland, got raided by the police who mistook it for a drug carrier, sailed it across the north sea to Lowestoft where he strips it of barnacles every now and again....

Well, I don't know a lot about building barges but I know how to sing the blues and I'll be steadily carrying the PA speakers across the gang plank of the Albatros tomorrow night in the lovely village of Wells Next the Sea for the Dutch captain, bar owner and skipper Ton.

Can't wait xx
