We're Back :)

We never went away, but some how, it feels like we are making a comeback :) we've been locked away for quite a while now (about 18months) but in that time we have managed to record an album ,, due out on the 28th August :) we posted a free track on RN and SC ( sorry for the ending on RN 8mb limit !!) as a taster of the finished album. We are incredibly proud of this and is without question our collection of songs that define us as EmilyNeeds. We really hope you all like it :) obviously with the Album due our attention for the next few days will turn to updating all our info on our various pages and looking at getting some physical CD's and T-Shirts in our reverb nation shop. For now tho we find our selfs floating on positive feedback from "Chime the Bell" maybe we will get carried away with our selfs and post another song before launch :) xx

Paul Newbury BOTB 2012

July 7th 2012. We were entered into the annual Paul Newbury BOTB competition which is held at the Black Market venue. Firstly this is an amazing venue with a great stage area cool lighting and a top sound guy (Dave ) we were drawn 2nd out off 8 bands so dragged our gear in and settled down for what was goin to be a long day. During our wait to play we were basically left alone. No other band came up and said hello, so when it was our turn to go on we were nervous. This was unfounded cause once we started those fears left us. It was only a 20 minute set and went way to quick but we played our songs and settled down for the rest of the acts. One of the judges came over and gave us some words of encouragement - intact he loved us. Time past bands came and went then suddenly results time. We weren't holding much hope as we never do well in these type of things, so you can imagine our surprise when they announced in 1st place EmilyNeeds. Wooooot. Alan was stunned and was forced by Verity to go and collect the prize. Humble he mumbled something over the mic then quickly left the stage with the trophy some cash and the chance to have 3songs recorded, cool. At this point we would like to thank all those at the black market venue for having us. Our next gig is at the maze Nottingham on the 31st July :) EmilyNeeds proud winners of the Paul Newbury BOTB 2012

Battle of the Bands pt2

Trixion Cheery = 112 Marc Reeves = 95 PaperCape = 116 EMILYNEEDS = 95 (ouch) The Sykes = 120 so at this point we were in joint last meaning 0 points from this criteria (ouch) the judges scuttled off to deliberate the other criteria scores. only a couple of minutes passed before another change was announced. OK now there's going be 3 acts selected, the top 2 will go thro to the final. The 3rd act from tonight and the 3rd act from tommorow's semi final will decide a wild card'ish entry to the final. so top 2 in 3rd place playoff. in 3rd place...... PAPERCAPE, cheers claps ect in 2nd place...... The Sykes, cheers but also a couple of boo's even one off the judges next to us said "thats interesting" long pause in 1st place........ EMILYNEEDS...... OMFG Alan collapses into Verity, Cat and Vicky, Laughing. Verity looks completely gob smacked, and the room is full off applause. some off the judges come up to us straight away and the feedback is amazing. Thanks guys, peoples, and, organisers. Special thanks to Cat and Vez. Thanks to the Face book messages thro-out the night. you all played a massively important part in us getting to the final. We now get to play at The Rescue Rooms in Nottingham 29th april with a chance of playing the main stage in ROCK CITY.

Battle of the bands pt1

SO, Emily Needs applied to play a battle of the bands. The application had to be made online, and unfortunately we didn't get thro to the live stages (semi final), Alan was sad but Emily decided to get over this by practising some more. Then the email came, "you were our reserve band, and someone's dropped out". Without pause, we said yes and duly turned up on the 22nd march, in Nottingham, not expecting too much, but happy to be there, and happy to be playing again. when we got there, a band was already on stage (soundchecking) where they remained for the next 40mins or so whilst we kinda got lost in a corner waiting for some instruction. Then came the drawing of stage times,Emily drew slot 4 out off 5, moved all their gear into the area by the stage and quickly went back to the corner. Cat and Vicky had come to support us and just has we started to get into chat and giggles, the first band of the night were being ushered onto the stage. Trixion cherry were up and rocking their genre, rockabilly, B52'ish surfin pyscho rock. 3 songs done and a pretty good reception from the buzzing crowd gathered. next up was a solo guy, Marc Reeves. unfortunately Marc got lost in the crowd noise and from where we were sat was almost backing music... shame.... band 3 now, and these were the guys that were on when we got there. PaperCape, 4 piece, well rehearsed. Alan thought their 3rd song was the best, and he loved the drumming very tribalistic. then it was us, we quickly got our gear organised, and started to set up. The sound guy and Alan had a quick chat about line checks, which were done silently so Alan and Vez didnt hear themselfs before the volumes were turned up. short introduction from Vez, then bang Chime the Bell started, beats, samples, keyboards vocals all rocking levels sounding good from where we were and 4minutes later the crowd were cheering with wooops and audible yeah's and a generous round of applause. settings change for song 2, Alan starts this one with playing his iphone and Vez starts with a Vocal radio effect. "I Cant Change" drum beat then kicks in and the room is captivated. Admission time, about 1/2 way thro this song Alan suffered a small computer glitch, and for some reason we lost a little timing, but we dont think anyone noticed, Vez freeflowed the vocal and we quickly caught back up. End of song and another Generous Applause. Fully into their stride and loving every moment off this, the beat kicks in for song 3 "when i fall down" heavy on the bass and vez at full flow, this rocked, people were grooving and swaying, but before we knew it it was over, Great Applause and Cheers and even heard "more" "we want f**king more of that". Buzzing we left the stage. The last act were up "the sykes" ? "the pysches" sorry guys didnt catch the name, again well rehearsed and well performed. then it was done, we had read the rules of the comp. and one of the criteria was a DB meter reading to gauge how loud your fans were. At this point Alan had resigned himself to loosing knowing that we realy only had a couple of people making noise for us. so the idea is, organizer shouts out the name off the band in order they played and the crowd cheers, DB metre reading taking and this accounts for up to 20points in the overall score.
