45 year old Randy California, who is best known as the leader of the Rock band Spirit, died tragically when he was gripped by an undertow while swimming on the coast of the Hawaiian island of Molokai. Before he died, he was able to save his 12 year-old son, Quinn.

Phil Spector's son, 9 year old Phillip Jr., died of lymphatic leukemia on his father's 51st birthday. Phil Sr. would later say that when he lost his son, he'd lost his best friend, and in some ways, his grip on reality.

The former manager of Grand Funk Railroad, Terry Knight, showed up at a benefit concert along with two sheriffs and a moving van. He had a court order granting him the right to seize and hold $1 million in assets pending settlement of several lawsuits between the he and the band.
