God truly amazes me! I had no idea my music would find such a large audience on YouTube! And, the song which has been responsible for the most plays is "Heal My Broken Heart", a song written as a prayer to God, trying to find a way through a very painful tragedy.
I was living in an abusive marriage in my early 20's. We had dated for 4 years, and I thought I knew him completely. Yet, within six months of marriage, it turned violent. It continued to get worse, yet I denied to myself what was happening. I really didn't know what to do, so I did nothing, allowing the cycle of abuse to continue.
In the end, he was threatening to kill me with a loaded gun. It was scary, traumatic really, and I left soon after that. I was mad at God for a long time, thinking He has abandoned me. Yet he showed me He was inside of me, engaged in the battle, until my ex-husband put down the gun. Then I ran to a bedroom to lock myself in, but was scared because he had broken down the door before. Seventeen years later, God showed me that he had posted an angel outside my door to protect me that night.
This and other events were in my head when writing Heal My Broken Heart. What was intended to harm me, God turned out to give hope and healing to many people around the world. Isn't God just like that? Turning my ashes into beauty. A beautiful song was born from those ashes. And I thank God for it!!

As we enter the new year with uncertainty on many fronts, it is important to keep our eyes focused on Jesus, who is the author and perfector of our faith. Keep in the forefront of our minds that Jesus did not count equality with God something to be grasped or flaunted, but he made himself a servant of all, even to the point of laying down his life for us! And now, as believers in Christ, we posess the same power in us that raised Christ from the dead. If not, how would we have assurance that we ourselves will also be raised from the dead on the last day? Yet we are sealed with the Holy Spirit, who guarantees our eternal life.
I urge you to keep your thoughts and prayers focused on Jesus and his power that is available to us in our lives every day. God bless you in this New Year, and I pray that your walk with Jesus will be more focused than ever this year.
