Chicago-born musician Dizzy Dale Williams is a natural-born paragon, a master of both deep blues and free jazz, armed with electrifying capabilities and a stunning résumé that includes fruitful stints with everyone from Sun Ra to LL Cool J
“Best Of L.A. Music Winners:Eclectic
Chicago-born killer Dizzy Dale Williams slays 'em with a mixture of Otis Rush–level hard blues-guitar slinging and red-hot impassioned vocals that's profoundly informed by a decades-long association with free-jazz supergenius Sun Ra — a stint that began when Williams was just 14. The ability to orbit both of these heavenly bodies — straight-up blues and deep-jazz expression — is one few players can conceive of, let alone pull off, and Williams' stunning facility makes him an in-demand force whose credits include extensive work with everyone from LL Cool J to accro-bop stylist Azar Lawrence. Mesmerizing. —Jonny Whiteside”

“Chicago-born musician Dizzy Dale Williams is a natural-born paragon, a master of both deep blues and free jazz, armed with electrifying capabilities and a stunning résumé that includes fruitful stints with everyone from Sun Ra to LL Cool J. Any conversation with the longtime San Fernando Valley resident is mind-bending, lined with a singular cosmological perspective and an utter disregard for the spiritually illegitimate. Tune him in:
“Being raised in the South Side of Chicago, there was this whole free-jazz scene, Sun Ra was always around and I lived near an entire apartment complex full of musicians, so I heard all kinds of stuff coming out of there when I was playing ball as a kid. That started me going down the free-jazz trip and once I got a guitar in my hand, this was like 1969, I was 14, my big influence was, ‘How many kinds of sound can I make with this instrument?’ I did anything, used feedback, whatever I could, trying to express myself. The scene was so different th”

“By the time the Arkestra took the stage at Wndsor’s St. Clair College Amphitheatre on Setpember 6, 1974, the night had already seen stellar sets from many of the performers mentioned before. With James Brown known to have one of the most entertaining shows during this era, Ra and his group brought every ounce of energy they had to the stage and the cassette master reference tapes preserved that night document this in full glory. The addition of electric guitar player Dale Williams and Detroit resident Reginald “Shoo-Be-Doo” Fields on the electric bass provide a nice twist to the songs laid out in the set. Long time alumni from the Arkestra are present and the set dives deeper into the world of Sun Ra’s vast career.”

Gary Lawrence Murphy Lanquidity was my second LP of Sun Ra (the first was the ESP sampler disc) and Where Pathways Meet was a guitar solo that changed how I looked at my guitar; I had no idea back then that this "Disco Kid" (ie you) was about the same age as me! It still ranks as one of my all time favourite electric guitar solos! It's so silky smooth and yet rips with fire, made a big impression on my young mind -- I mentioned that to Michael Ray one time and he said "Go contact Dale, he's on Facebook!" so it's largely that solo that brought me here

“Heaven's Got the Blues
Williams' resume cites qualifications ranging from tours with the likes of Little Milton and the late poet/play- wright/songwriter Oscar Brown jr. through an early-'70s stint with Sun Ra to more recent gigs accompanying such figures as the lateSolomon Burke, Dorothy Moore. Mighty Mo Rogers. and even LL Cool j.
Williams' lyrics are mostly well crafted: his production is deep and textured; his vocals are taught and intense. He's not above a bit of "blooze" pandering on occasion (e.g., The Coochie Prison), but he can also ignite genuine sonic sparks with his fretboard pyrotechnics (Hula Hoop), and when he fires down the jets and shows his vulnerability (as in the breathy pop ballad Wish It Was Me). the effect is tantalizingly seductive.

“Unfamiliar with Sun Ra, the Editor was caught off guard at the reception while reading an article from the September 25, 1988 issue of the Philadelphia Inquirer: "...Sun Ra does not acknowledge having been born...." A guest standing nearby said: " and he didn't acknowledge his death either." Another added: "He is on Saturn." Intrigued, The Times talked to an eyewitness to Sun Ra. See Dale Williams, below. Williams, an accomplished guitarist, singer, songwriter, and producer in his own right, lived for a time with Sun Ra and appeared on his albums with the Arkestra, including Antique Blacks, Live in Ann Arbor Jazz & Blues Festival, The Other Side of the Sun, and Lanquidity. See Williams with the Arkestra on August 4, 2013 at the Hollywood Bowl as a part of KCRW's World Festival. Williams is currently preparing to release his first single, Little Bit of Love, from his upcoming album titled Heaven's Got the Blues. Photos: Fifth Avenue Times”
