Chicago lyricist, Mick Luter has been a very busy man in 2011. He has apppeared on numerous projects including Grant Parks "The Hip Hop Rebirth", Tree's "PLUTO", Cayex Illah's "30 Shots of Drama", Vakill's "Armor of God", as well as The GoodDoctors, "The Duff." He also released his critically acclaimed mixtape, The Myth, hosted by turntable heavyweight DJ GSpot.
What makes Mick stand alone is his ability to captivate the listener with brutally honest yet introspective music. As well as his uncanny ability to deliver it as only as he can. His command of the beat and his clever wordplay weaves vivid tales that captures your soul. You can literally hear the push and pull, the ebb and flow of his admitted contradictions which he courageously paints with the broadest of strokes.
He began his hip hop career rapping alongside Grammy award winning Lupe Fiasco, as the duo quickly built an ear wrenching buzz on Chicago's unforgiving battle scene. That same year, Mick was crowned The Source Magazine's Chicago battle Champion in 2000. in which he was flown to NY to battle 11 contestants from all over the US. "Once I won the Source battle, i realized that the possibilities were endless if i dedicate myself to my craft. That was the moment when I realized that I was one of the voices of my city"
Mick continued to develop his signature style throughout the years, performing throughout the city until his name began to ring in the established rap circles in the Chii. A meeting with DJ Chase, led to Mick meeting Yung Berg and his producer at the time Boogz. Once Boogz got wind of Mick's recording prowliss, he reached out to legendary producer NO I.D with whom he demanded he listen to. NO ID co-signed Mick and asked him to come to ATL to record some records. This chain of events led to Mick relocating to ATL to work with the architect of some of the most soulful records of our generation.
Luter's music has garnered numerous accolades such as the 2007 Sony Music Nation winner in which he won amongst 3000 competitors ultimately inking a record deal with Sony/Epic Original. The deal ultimately went sour, giving Mick some much needed industry experience as well as contacts.
Mick is currently wrapping up three projects at the moment.
He is putting the finishing touches on the Gunsmoke project with famed Chicago producer SC, as well as his Building Cathedrals EP which is slated to drop in late August.

“No I.D. on the track, let the story begin.
While waiting on Mikkey Halsted’s project, The Dark Room, the e-streets were set ablaze with his single “The Exorcist”. It wasn’t the first time some had heard the sample-driven track, though. The intro from Mick Luter’s My Word album featured the same No I.D.-produced joint

“Sound Familiar? Mick Luter x Mobb Deep Edition
n 2008, Mick unleashed his video for “How We Raised” which was produced by SC. The track featured a sample that a few may be familiar with now. Johnson, Hawkins, Tatum & Durr’s “You Can’t Blame Me”. SC flipped the joint and set off a chain reaction.”

“Hiphopgame.com Interview
How do you feel hearing your older tracks with No I.D. today?
Oh, man, I feel like those records are timeless. I learned so much about life from No I.D., let alone music. And I can hear the growth in the cadence and how I tried to enunciate certain words. I can hear the growth and I think he had a lot to do with pushing me in the right direction. He never told me “Do this, do that.” He just gave me records and told me to “Do you.” I’ve never had an issue with No I.D. and he was very receptive.”
Brian Kayser - Hiphopgame.com
"I don't know how many of y'all remember this freestyle, we posted it over a year ago. Mick was planning to drop a mixtape back then but somehow it got scrapped. Now he's back with his "The Myth" mixtape which just dropped and also includes the "Dumb it Down" freestyle.
To go along with it, he decided to drop the video that he shot for the song, too. Check it out above and enjoy! Shouts to Mick for letting us premiere the vid!"

“Here’s a popular question I get: “Yo Drew, where is Mick Luter?” or “Where the HELL has Mick Luter been hiding?” , and I usually just respond with “He’s working” or “He’s on his way back”. Well, the Mick man commeth, and he’s got SC in tow.
The MC/Producer combo, formally known as GunSmoke, is hard at work on their self-titled debut LP. It’s been a long time coming and I know many are excited…let’s just hope they don’t make us wait too much longer. I’ve seen this movie before. Ha!
Welcome back Mick. Yadigski! More from GunSmoke and their Smokey theme coming soon.

“Check out this amazing track by Chi-Town’s Mick Luter!
Knowledge is power,
and ignorance is bliss.
It’s the wisdom that shines through the visions in the mist.
The main challenge
is to maintain the balance,
between your soul and the body
the control; it’s the science!!!!

“DJ RTC just dropped this off:
We first heard “I’m A Ryder” last summer, during a visit to The Attic with Mikkey Halsted. The track was always said to actually be a Mick Luter song, but Mick was taking his sweet time on putting down his 16. Well, at the RH sponsored DJ RTC & Friends Mikkey and Mick performed the completed version live for the first time.

“Chicago Hip-Hop super group The United Centa (Mick Luter, Big Wiz, Rasheed Hadee & Que Billah) drops by our studios to talk about how they formed and what to expect from them in the near future.

Cosm Roks - The Hi[p Hop Project
“You may remember that over a year ago a Chicago supergroup formed, featuring four of the Westside’s most ferocious lyricists: Mick Luter, Big Wiz, Rashid Hadee and Que B.I.L.L.A.H. Picking a Westside landmark to name their regime after was the first order of business and shortly thereafter The United Center was born. Only one song leaked (the incredibly dope “Under The Act”) , and then The United Center was never heard from again.”

“Mick Luter – "Street Knowledge"
Despite what Yakbar (or whomever) say in the comments section, Mick Luter is not locked up (the hell?), and isn’t in hiding or on hiatus – he’s just been working. Quietly.
Here he returns with “Street Knowledge” from the Beatknockaz International compilation, which pairs producers from France to Spain, with top notch American emcees including Mick, Joe Budden, CL Smooth and Termanology. ML’s joint was produced by Saikness from France.

“Sometimes you have to get grimy for your hip hop news, and you know FSD is under the grimy news act (huh?).
Today the Chicago Tribune ran a piece on Mick Luter in their Local Sounds section, and for some reason the Trib didn’t make the article available online. Shame on them. But thanks to the wonders technology, someone was able to scan it and send it over. Click on it and read it in full. Get on your Mick Luter (no Luther) lesson.
Be sure to check out Mick as part of the Exit Fake Shore Drive Showcase next Tuesday at Sub T.

“So in our never-ending quest to supply the masses with good music, let me introduce Mick Luter, a rhyme spitter from the Windy City. Duke has a mixtape, The Lesson, dropping July 1st, and if they’re as dope as the tracks that popped in my email then it may actually be a good all-around listen. Check out the video for “How We Raised,” and if you’re feeling it, cop the track below. As a bonus, I’m also adding “J-Down,” produced by the one and only Hi-Tek as well.
