Mainstream is a San Antonio, Texas based Latin Rhythm & Blues Band that can cover a gamut of Vintage Musical Styles and will be the life of any occasion! Mainstream focuses on Latin R&B and Rock-n-Roll, playing music from a wide musical spectrum. From The Flamingos and Bob Marley to Santana and War, Mainstream’s Latin jazz rock style revives classic standards and other all-time favorites. With Mainstream’s driving rhythms and tight musical styles, you won’t be able to stand still. Mainstream also features its vocal harmonies with all members contributing to exquisite vocal arrangements. Mainstream consists of five members with a wealth of musical and performance experience.
Four members were members of the successful Variety/ Tejano group, Changes, for almost ten years.
On Lead Guitar and Vocals is Albert Sandoval. Albert, former member of Changes, has recently been a part of The Paul Elizondo Orchestra, and the San Antonio Jazz Orchestra and many other musical groups throughout his long musical career such as Oasis, Mirage, the Flat Earth and The Soul Breed. Albert has also performed with Ernie Garibay & Cats Don't Sleep, Road Trip, and was an original member of Breath Spirit & Life. Albert holds a Bachelor of Music from St. Mary's University and a Master of Education from The University of the Incarnate Word. He was a successful Band Director for 30 years in San Antonio & served as Adjunct Faculty at The University of A&M San Antonio.
Playing Keyboards and also on Vocals, is former Changes member David Martinez.
San Antonio native & graduate of Thomas Jefferson HS, Mando Luna is on Bass Guitar and Vocals. Mando is a former Changes member. And also performs with his group GrooveXplosion.
Jesse Orta is laying down the beat on the Drums.Jesse was born and raised here in San Antonio and is a graduate of Lanier High School. He also spent four years performing with the United States Marine Band. After a successful tour with the United States Marine Band, Jesse returned to San Antonio and began his music educational studies. During his college studies, he performed throughout the San Antonio area with various groups, ranging from Jazz, R & B, Blues, and Latin styles. In 2005, Jesse relocated to EL Paso, TX to continue his musical studies at the University of Texas at El Paso. In El Paso Jesse performed with various groups throughout the area. In addition, Jesse worked as a drum instructor for many area high schools. In 2005, Jesse graduated from the University of Texas in El Paso with a degree in Music Education. That same year he took an appointment as a band director at El Dorado High School in El Paso, TX. After one year he relocated back to San Antonio and was appointed as a band director at John Jay High School. The following year, Jesse took a band director an appointment at Highlands High School where he won numerous awards. After having a successful four years at Highlands, Jesse transferred to Edison High School where he remains today. In addition, Jesse is an educator endorser for Promark Drumsticks and Encore Mallets.
Ray Palencia Jr is on saxes, flute, percussion & vocals. Ray learned how to play sax at Longfellow Jr High & in Mr. Keuntz's Jeff Band as a Class of 73 Jefferson HS graduate. At Jeff, Mando asked him to join Deadwood Colony which led to The Stone Image Band & Changes where Albert, Mando, David & Ray performed for many Jeff dances, proms & Talent Shows. While attending Jeff, Changes had 2 hit singles on KTSA & KONO. In the 70's he started Joynus w/former members of Studebaker Hawk, was a member of Raven & Bandango. In the 80's/90's he was w/Stinger, Jimi Spacek, Trinidad Panmasters, Toat Lee Bluz & Augie Meyers. In his musical career he has had the opportunity to open for countless National Acts, perform live & on cable with Doug Sahm, Freddy Fender, George Thorogood & Stevie Ray Vaughn.
On Latin Percussion is Jerry Peña, original member of the ~”4theReals”~ Rhythm Section. Jerry has also performed with Ernie Garibay & Cats Don't Sleep.
