It was Toronto’s Q107-FM Homegrown Contest (1983) that put them on the map with “New Girl Now” winning the contest. The response was so overwhelming that Bob Roper at WEA Canada immediately signed the band. Their self-titled debut album hit stores in 1984, spawning the Top 10 Singles “New Girl Now”, “Burning In Love”, “Stay In The Light” and “Wave Babies”. The album went platinum with over 400,000 units to date in Canada alone. The band’s second album “The Big Prize” (1986), featuring a rare appearance by Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson, went platinum in Canada almost immediately and saw HONEYMOON SUITE’s first real entry into the US market. A total of 12 albums has produced further notable tracks “Feel It Again”, “What Does It Take”, “Bad Attitude”, “Lethal Weapon”, “Love Changes Everything”, “Lookin’ Out For Number One”, “Still Lovin’ You” and “Long Way”. Throughout the mid-80’s Honeymoon Suite toured both sides of the border headlining club gigs and opening for such superstars of the era as Billy Idol, April Wine, Bryan Adams, Heart, .38 Special and ZZ Top. Riding the wave of popularity the band was nominated for the “Most Promising Group” Juno Award (1984) as well as “Group of The Year” (1985) and “Album of The Year” (1985). 1986 also saw the band win a gold award for “Best Live Act” at the World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo in addition to the Juno Award for “Group Of The Year”. A measure of success south of the border came their way as songs aired on TV’s “Miami Vice” and the movie soundtracks “Lethal Weapon II” and “One Crazy Summer”. Now bigger, louder and suite’r, don’t miss the opportunity to witness the spectacle that is HONEYMOON SUITE! For more about HONEYMOON SUITE please visit www.honeymoonsuiteband.com. Nicola Linde - Opening for Doug 'n' the Slugs Since taking a small break from performing to get a haircut and a real job, Nicola Linde has returned to the music scene and is still as emphatic as ever, but returns with a little more maturity, a little more artistry and a little more wisdom. Nicola Linde is a powerful performer and songwriter. With a big voice to match the intensity of her lyrics, Nicola is an artist with a feminine edge. The perspective is definitely female, but the impact is visceral. Her stance is strong. Her delivery is assertive. She has enough energy and passion to cut her own way through the crowd and stay on par with the boys. Nicola is a multi-instrumentalist who has been playing and writing for more than ten years. Her material speaks the truth of being a young woman today in a way that transcends gender. Love gone wrong and jobs that never went right, heartache, soul-searching and triumph find their voice in Nicola's songcraft. Backed by a core band of seasoned rockers, Nicola Linde creates a sound that ranges from aggressive to ethereal to wistful, but always maintains a captivating intensity. Born and raised on southern Vancouver Island, Nicola Linde pursued piano, guitar and bass early in life. Through playing bass and co-writing with many talented local musicians, Nicola gained a performing comfort and presence that beckoned her to strike out on her own to give voice to her own material. As a solo performer with a full band backup, Nicola has developed a style of playing and singing that, even with the influences showing, is all her own. Nicola Linde is not afraid of pounding on her guitar and singing about what's on her mind with songs that are raw, confessional, emotional, and unapologetic.
