What is NOVA-K about? The short answer is, of course, music. Mark Novak and Joe Bear have been collaborating for years on original music. With recent advances in how the general public now has easier access to music via the Internet, they decided the time was right to release some albums.
NOVA-K covers a lot of territory regarding the human condition. It is not just simple musings of love having gone good or bad - although those topics are covered in a more compelling way - NOVA-K also explores other traits such as politics, addiction, loss of family and self.
Joe and Mark have honed their musical skills for many years in the live arena as well as the studio. Both are multi instrumentalists and enjoy creating a sound scape of tones and moods using vocal harmonies, riveting guitar work and the ever changing sounds of synthesizers. In the past NOVA-K has involved guest musicians to add a certain feel to a song and complete the musical tapestry.
In the last few years NOVA-K has been lucky to find some other great collaborators. NOVA-K has found a great multi-instrumentalist and song writer named Kevin Johnson. Kevin studied music in college and has that rare ability to play many instruments very well. His song writing has also brought a bit of a new feel to NOVA-K.
Dale Echnoz is the newest contributer. Dale studied music composition at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and CU Boulder. He was friends with Mark and Joe prior to moving to Los Angeles and working at several major studios including The Record Plant and Motown Records’ HitsvilleStudios. After a hiatus from music, Dale returned to Colorado and the music spark was reignited.
Lyrically Mark has been writing with several people. Chuck Webster, a Mensa member with an insatiable interest in the human condition and Mike Sass a long time friend with a keen eye for the complex nature of humans. With the thoughtful input from these guys the depth and meaning of the lyrics has greatly expanded.
What does NOVA-K sound like? Everyone has their own perception. It has been said that NOVA-K is a mixture of David Bowie, The Cars and Yes with a bit of Rob Thomas thrown in. Bottom line is that NOVA-K is just good rock and roll with engaging lyrics and music that will have your foot tapping and your mind traveling.
