Mike de Sousa
Mike's compositions are personal, intimate works overflowing with fire, rhythm and feeling. Mike is also a prolific artist and writer, and his website www.100Artworks.Today features his selected work. Mike started playing piano at his first school and began composing shortly after he was awarded a music scholarship, when he also started lessons in guitar and cello. By the time he left college he had written numerous songs and instrumental works and had added percussion to the list of instruments he played. Mike went on to work with London Contemporary Dance Theatre as a musician and composer before developing multi-layered works of music, text and spoken word. Alongside his music Mike began writing poetry at an early age. His novella The Burial of Georgio Sánchez, a lyrical evocation of passion, self-sacrifice and necessary deceit won high praise ("Wonderfully written and beautifully poetic…" Bloomsbury; "Full of marvellous things…" Martin Secker and Warburg), and he is currently working on a collection of poetry he plans to publish alongside his music. Mike's love of language, music, art and photography continues to drive his creative output, and his latest digital artworks overflow with exquisite, often powerful and mysterious luminous forms. The British composer and broadcaster Michael Berkeley has written that Mike's music compositions are "Highly individual and imaginative…" and the English playwright, screenwriter, actor and author Alan Bennett has said of Mike's literature: "I like his style, it is unlike anything I have ever read...". All music by Mike de Sousa at ReverbNation is produced by him in his studio. If you enjoy what you discover please leave a comment...
