Michelle Murray is an award-winning performing songwriter in the Maryland D.C. area. She plays a combination of originals and covers that span genres including Americana, Folk, Bluegrass, Country, Singer Songwriter and a touch of the blues.
An accomplished lyricist, many of Michelle’s songs have been signed to various publishers and libraries for Film and TV, and she recently had a couple of songs, "Home Away From Home" and "In Your Warmth," placed episodes of The Young And Restless. She's had other songs placed on MTV and The Lifetime Channel.
Michelle’s latest EP release, "In Your Warmth" was released in February 2021. The album was nominated as Best Folk Album for the 2022 Wammie (Washington Area Music Association) awards. “This Life, My Life,” was released in March 2018. This EP includes songs recently signed to several prestigious music publishers. Her earlier EP, “Coming Home”, was released in September 2015.
Michelle has received multiple Wammie (Washington Area Music Award) nominations
including a nomination for Best Contemporary Folk Recording, Best Contemporary Folk Duo/group, and Best Country/Bluegrass band.
Several of Michelle's songs have received airplay and recognition on numerous radio stations and programs including WOWD 94.3 FM (Takoma Radio) as a guest on the Forbidden Alliance radio show hosted by Robbie White and Weasel, WTMD, WFDU as a guest of Ron Olesko, WERA-FM on the Music Alley Radio show, MyRuralRadio.com, Women of Substance Radio, NWCZ radio, and WETA-FM on Mary Cliff's "Traditions" show. She has also been a guest on Damien Einstein's show on WRNR-FM.
In addition, several of her songs have won honorable mentions in the Song of the Year contest and in the MASC Song Contest.
Michelle has performed in various venues and festivals in the Washington D.C. area, including Bethesda Blues and Jazz Club, The Barns of Wolf Trap, Gypsy Sally's, The Birchmere, World Folk Music Association, The Takoma Park Folk Festival, The 9 Songwriter Series, The New Deal Café, Jammin Java and the Focus Music Concert Series.
In addition to performing live, Michelle also hosts a daily bluegrass radio show on Bluegrass Country Radio 88.5 HD2, weeknights 6-7pm.
In addition to her solo work, Michelle is the leader of a bluegrass-country band, “No Part of Nothin," and performs in the duo "Murray and Stone."
Michelle released an EP in September 2015, "Coming Home," available on iTunes, Amazon and Bandcamp. Othe recordings include a New Songs Sampler CD released in 2014, a Wammie-nominated CD of original songs, "Michelle Murray: Collection of Songs," released in 2006, featuring Rick Kanton and Les Hatley on lead guitars, Greg Vickers on banjo and harp, Anne Sucher on harmony vocals and TM Hanna on mandolin. In addition to the Water's Edge CD, "Make a Choice", Michelle has also released a sampler CD "This Life."
