Michael A. Ruelas - Guitarist Musician Composer SHREDGUY records
I began playing the guitar when I was nine years old.My father played,so I would watch him play all the time ,which naturally influenced me to play the guitar myself.I began taking guitar lessons from my schools orchestra teacher.I would go to school an hour early to begin my lesson and stay one hour after school to end my lessons.I started learning the basic scale and chord patterns, such as,all the major and minor keys and modes after school.I would rush home to do all my homework, then I would spend the rest of my time practicing on all my guitar studies and guitar books my father would give me.I began learning many songs from the radio, such as,the Beatles,McCartney's"Yesterday",and many others.I soon discovered I had a natural ear for music. My Music teacher was so impressed, that she asked me to play in the school assemblies and many other school events. As I got older ,I started listening to Randy Rhoads,Eddie Van Halen and all the shredders that were around.I found myself learning all the songs I wished to learn without any teachers or guitar magazines. In 1984 when I was in the eighth grade,I competed in a school talent show.I played "Eddie's Eruption",and added my own solo pieces that I had worked very hard to perfect. The audience was stunned to hear a kid play with such maturity.I won the show.It was great being appreciated. In 1985,I formed my first band "RAGE", which style consisted of progressive rock with a whole lot of shredding.I wrote all the songs and arrangements. We went on performing every show we could to make a name for ourselves. We received great reviews through local music magazines and radio stations. I also was constantly working on my own instrumentals which were in the style of melodic metal, classical guitar and acoustic guitar.I would experiment with different types of alternative guitar tunings ,eight finger tapping techniques, and applying these efforts to my instrumentals. In 1989, I produced a four song demo, and submitted it to "Guitar FPM "Magazine"Resume Column".I was featured in the column a few months later. My demo was reviewed by "John Stix",the editor and chief of the magazine. He was quite impressed with my my melodic sense of of music and really enjoyed my acoustic work. John Stix chose me out of (2000) guitarist to perform on the guitar recordings release "Resume Vol,1" Burnin" CD,which featured eight unsigned guitarist from around the globe.I also performed on "Utopia In Flight",the instrumentals of rock, which included, the Allman Brothers band,Eric Johnson,Brad Gillis,Mark Wood,Ronnie Montrouse, and various well known guitarist from around the world.Through the years I've conducted guitar seminars around local music stores and high schools.I did a clinic with Blues Saraceno ,and another with Vinnie Appice at Lesmens music store where I was teaching full time for about five years.I've played with numerous bands around this town, but never wanted to be in a serious club band playing cover tunes.I've always wanted to have my own originality ,It's very important to me to have my own style of music and to be able to express it. In late "98" ,I produced and engineered an eleven song CD"Souly Within", which I strongly believe is great guitar effort.I submitted "Souly Within" to guitar extraordinaire "Stephen Ross", A Shrapnel Records Recordings artist.Stephen showcased me on his profile and reviewed "Souly Within", as a great !! and Melodic!!! CD,release,Seven string guitarist "Rob Johnson", has described my music as"GREAT SHRED"!! "FURIOUS PLAY FITS THE TITLE!! I have won countless guitar competitions!! Won the best shredder of New Mexico competition, in "2003" also won "Joe Satriani's" guitar in the contest!!, and I was the only instrumental band to make the top ten in the "94rock Mayhem contest"2010". I am currently teaching a large number of students, and completing my up coming release,"Furious Play", which is a intense melodic shred guitar instrumental!! which will be released later this summer. My future plans are to continue teaching and writing music,I'm looking for the right opportunities for either a solo or a band member situation with a career touch, solid feel, inventive composition where shredding is a must.................................
