Karen Elstone, otherwise known as SopranoSister, grew up in west Toronto with a love for all things rock...
While the classic rock hits played on the radio and vinyl, she dreamed of being a rock star. She did not take steps to truly pursue her dream until later in life, after deciding that administrative work left her with a void. She went back to school to study voice at both Humber College and York University, where she earned an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Classical Voice. But rock and roll continues to be her real love. She is also influenced by the blues and folk. Inspirational musicians include: Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, The Pretenders, Led Zeppelin, Indigo Girls, Heart and Linda Ronstadt.
Karen is mainly involved in music for the joy it gives to her and to use her artistic talents to their fullest. She is happy to be able to create music and gives back to the community by teaching music in her home. She also sings at open mic and other events. Karen is writing and recording her own songs, and has released two 10-track albums, Fantasy and Dreamer. She is finishing up a third album called Transition Into Light, which has 12 tracks. She hopes to perform live more in southern Ontario. Karen also loves the theatre and film, and hopes to produce a musical or cabaret-style production in the future. She is working on a screenplay as well.
Performing on stage is Karen's number one joy, as well as helping others to realize their talents. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with others. She plays guitar, harmonica, piano and has recently taken up drums and cello, which she played in public school. She is definitely hands-on, when it comes to music and wishes to set up a bigger home studio eventually...
