The Kalifornia Krauts are a German American Polka band based in Southern California. They are a seasonal act celebrating the culture of Oktoberfest and perform primarily in the Southwest in support of their debut 2013 album, Oktoberfest with the Kalifornia Krauts.
The group is led by NAU Lumberjack Christoff Poland of the 90’s era Ska band Warsaw Poland Bros. The group performs in traditional attire and unlike most bands in their genre, they have the music as well as the dance steps memorized. There will be no sitting behind music stands at a Kali Krauts’ show.
Their music is lighthearted and often tongue-in-cheek, reflecting a time when society was not so PC. The Too Fat Polka would sum up the nature of their show.
America’s musical melting pot is filled with elements from immigrants home countries. Just as Salsa was created in New York by Cuban and Puerto Rican immigrants, so too was Polka Americanized in the upper mid-west by German, Polish and other central European immigrants. It is common to hear an old world tune worked from German to English. The Kalifornia Krauts take this concept to the next logical level. They incorporate Spanish verses from existing Mexican Folk songs of German origin alongside English and German lyrics.
The Kalifornia Krauts are regular performers at the Lake Arrowhead Village Oktoberfest, Dana Point Oktoberfest, Jacksonville, Oregon Oktoberfest, La Mesa and Temecula Oktoberfest.
