I knew nothing of Juke Joint Jonny when I decided to give this twelve track album a spin, and perhaps that lack of prior knowledge actually helped to add to my listening experience, because everything about this release is about the music, there is no hype, no bullshit, no claims to fame, just honest to goodness rock 'n' roll music, something that is an absolute joy to just immerse yourself in. Jonny is someone who (on this release at least) specialises in largely acoustic blues guitar, and throughout the dozen tracks contained within 'Pure And Simple' he simply revels in playing everything from delta blues like on opener 'Come On Up', folky slide on 'Going To Mississippi', through to honky tonk rock 'n' roll like on 'Moma Lion'.
