if you happen to be in NYC on May 10th you should check out this fun little concert. Kathleen Supove (of Exploding Piano fame) will be playing the "suite" for piano and boombox. It's a step outside of my normal role- and one I had a great deal of fun with. It's a nutso piece! It is a part of the Tribeca New Music Fesitval (run by the indefatigable Preston/Stahly/New York Art Ensemble). it is hosted at the Flea Theater (Yep, that famous one in Tribeca): 41 White St., between Broadway and Church St., three blocks south of Canal St. the closest subway lines are the A, C, and E, the 6, the N and R, and the Q and W, all of which stop at Canal Street, as well as the 1, which stops at Franklin Street. the closest bus service is the M6. http://www.theflea.org/

Always rewarding (and relieving) to discover new contemporary art music that isn't the drone, string ostinato, simple brass melody, "epic" stuff that's being churned out by everyone with staff paper.he Concerto for Chamber Orchestra is constantly engaging, the Suite for Piano and Boombox is constantly entertaining, and Hornik is just gorgeous while yet remaining interesting to someone who's more than just passively listening. I'll definitely be returning here to listen more!
