John and Rachel Nicholas have been making music together for as long as they’ve made their lives together. Their award winning songs have a spare yet deeply moving quality and are rooted in the history of folk, roots and popular music while their harmonies have been described as both soulful and soaring.
Since moving to the Midcoast area in 2012, they have become known for hosting a music series at Harbor Square Gallery for 7 years as well as their collaborative band, The Lowdown, with fellow singer-songwriter David Dodson. They have also become regular features at the Sweet Chariot Music Festival. They have shared the stage with Dave Mallett, Patty Larkin, Chris Smither, Paul Sullivan, Mary Gauthier and many others throughout New England.
Their 2016 release “House Of Dreams” spent 7 weeks on WERU’s top played CDs. Two songs from their previous release “Here You Are” won first runner up status in two categories of The Great American Song Contest in 2009. Their 2021 release, “Learning How To Walk”, similarly spent several weeks among WERU’s top 25 CDs.
They currently host a music series called The Good Trouble Project that donates the majority of their proceeds to local causes.
