"JERSEY JOHN" HANNEY BIO (April 2015)
Music and the arts have been an influential and integral part of John's life. Early in his career, John has had the honor of performing on trumpet for an assortment of U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve ceremonies. Working as a camera operator, sound, and lighting technician, he wrote and recorded a series of songs for small business commercials. After performing for years on guitar at backyard parties and social gatherings with friends, John's accomplished peers encouraged him to sit in with them on harmonica.
John's journey has brought him together with the most amazing talents. Artists such as Kelly McGuire, Jim Hoehn, Jimi Pappas, "Captain Josh" Ramsteck, Rob Mehl, Dennis Davis, "Sunny Jim" White, and Don Middlebrook have called upon John to lay a little harp down for their shows. John has also joined forces with Dennis McCaughey & Tropical Soul, Tall Paul & Quincy Yeates, The Frozen Gringos: Hugo Duarte & Jeff Pike, John Patti, Mark Mulligan, Freebo, Howard Livingston, Jimmy Parrish & Dusty Barber, Dave McKenney, John Frinzi & Mark James, Homemade Wine, Nick FabbZ, Steve Tolliver & the Troprock Junkies, and Tom & Michelle Becker of Latitude.
John has also shared the stage with "Jimmy and the Parrots" and the "Chris Sacks Band" on more than a handful of occasions. Surprise guest appearances on a few tunes with "Copper Sky", "Jim Morris and the Big Bamboo Band", and the "Boat Drunks" were some memorable moments. His stylings have taken John to charitable events such as "Music On The Bay 2013" in Tampa and a benefit for Hugo Duarte at the "Nav-A-Gator Bar & Grill" along the Peace River in 2014. A 2015 highlight for John was the chance make an unannounced surprise day trip and perform with Paul Roush and Jim Stevens for the first Florida "Bat Cave Concert" at Burnt Store Marina. Songwriters Island Radio was there to capture the notable show.
John has had the pleasure to perform at "Meeting of the Minds" in Key West for the past several years. His noted shows at the Rum Barrel as a member of the "John Friday Trio" are becoming an annual event. He can be heard playing harp on the song "No More Everyday Blues" from Gary PhilipS' most recent released CD entitled "Tiki Bar Island". Upcoming shows for John include the "4th Annual Wallflower Key House Concert" with Kelly McGuire in June.
