About the Artist

Jazz•fflu•enz•a noun \?jaz-?flü-?en-z?\ Definition of JAZZFFLUENZA 1 : Chronic psychiatric condition that initially presents with a fervent belief that jazz is the central unifying language in which all equally tempered Western musical styles created with the human singing voice and/or human activated non-algorithmic music transducer devices (i.e. instruments) can be expressed. Advanced stages of the condition are manifest in the performer being absolutely convinced that well-executed jazz-infused music is entertaining to all listeners who love music. Late/terminal stage of the condition occurs when inflicted performers begin to perform said jazz-infused music in public venues. 2 : The Annapolis based jazz group comprised of Phil Heiliger (piano), Eric Heavner (trumpet), Steve LoGrande (sax), Edward Plant (bass), and Chuck Ferrell (drums). Jazzffluenza was formed in 2014 by bassist Edward Plant as his vehicle for bringing to Baltimore audiences the diverse and dynamic repertoire of jazz music that he has always personally enjoyed. The band's most recent lineup features a collaboration with Baltimore piano legend Phil Heiliger to make this the most rewarding project of his decades long career. The incomparable Chuck Ferrell on drums provides the punch while the consummate two-who-play-as-one horn duo of Eric Heavner and Steve LoGrande on trumpet and sax create the gracefully haunting melodies. Jazzffluenza is a true labor of love as these five top musicians with nearly 150 years combined experience in the Baltimore jazz scene bring their love for the art form to every performance, expressing the music with equal parts passion and skill.
