Jason Allen / Press

“f the Good Whoever didn't intend Jason Allen to be a country music singer, then the master control for legacies, legends and the fickle finger of fate must be out of whack. The 27-year-old not only looks, sings and writes like a classic C&W artist, but comes fully equipped with a Texas-fried "Coal Miner's Daughter" -- in this case, bricklayer's son -- life story. And he's been married four years now to the daughter of a country singer. Then to cap it all, this traditional country acolyte ends up on Houston's storied D Records, the label that helped launch Willie Nelson and released George Strait's first album back when he was still billed as merely the lead vocalist in the Ace in the Hole Band.”

“Jason Allen hasn’t been distracted by all the Texas Red Dirt artists out there who have all but taken the Texas music scene over. he makes it clear to anyone who listens to his music or sees him perform live that he is a country singer/songwriter. He does it very well, by the way. Jason’s fifth CD release, “Loving You” is evidence to that fact. There is one thing that’s difficult to do when you listen to “Loving You”, and that’s guess Jason Allen’s age. He was clearly brought up on country music, but trying to pinpoint the era that had the most influence on his music is nearly impossible. You can pick out styles in this CD from the 2000′s, like “Goin’ Fishin’ Today”. You’ll also find a throwback or two to the days of George Jones and Loretta Lynn ruled the radio airwaves. “Mama Got Jesus” takes you back to the mid-60′s country scene with a real throwback feel to the music and lyrics:”

“Well, it’s been four years (that album was released in 2008) since his last recording and with Lovin’ You, well, things seem different. The influences seem more 80’s and early 90’s, rather than 50’s and 60’s. And that’s perfectly acceptable. Life is pretty dang sweet for singer-songwriter-guitarist Jason Allen. Lovin’ You just brims with domestic satisfaction full of love of faith, family, fun and fishin’. Check out “Bouncin’ Babies” for instance. This is an actual country song about having kids around the house and that it’s pretty cool. This isn’t Lonestar-styled sippy-cup schmaltz (think "Mr. Mom." - uggh!). This is twangy, happy-dad country-rock. It’s pretty simple – “Daddy’s happy as can be,” sings Allen – and that’s the way he likes it. Allen’s song about a woman getting ready for a night on the town, sipping a little Coke and rum – “She’s Going Out Tonight” – has an uptempo appeal. The tune and the chorus are actua”

“To me, Jason Allen will always be the Texas country singer who knows how to translate lyrics into pure emotion. He has done some heartfelt, tear-jerking ballads the song, but Jason’s latest single, ‘I Did’ has a more happy feel. One of the real good guys in Texas country music, Jason is back with a song about finding inspiration within ourselves. Allen tells us that ‘I Did’ (a tune with a distinct Merle Haggard feel) is about “going through a hard time, and then you see a light at the end of the tunnel. And it’s not a train.” Allen describes the new single as, “Sometimes life beats you up to the point that you don’t think you’re going to survive, and you’re barely hanging on, and all of a sudden, that sun starts shining through…it’s okay to go through hard times.””
