Jack Bond was raised in Washington, D.C., and yet developed an early affinity for Country music after seeing the Grand Ol' Opry and other "Country" shows on TV. He loved the sound of the guitar, and convinced his mom to buy him one at 10 yrs.old. Since Jack's grandfather, Oswick Lee Bond, had been a professional musician,his dad knew the pitfalls of being a "music man" and was wary. However, when Jack began playing songs off the radio by ear after 2 weeks, he said something like "there's nothing we can do."
Jack had his first band at age 13, and played on weekends for money all through High School and College. He played the hits of the day, but always leaned towards Country. However, he was influenced by everything "from Bluegrass to Beatles, from Bad Company to Brahms, & from Brooke Benton to Blues," as he puts it.
After college, as it became clear he was not the "9 to 5 type," he began playing music full time, and started writing his own songs. He then met and befriended guitar legend Roy Buchanan, whom he still refers to as "the best I've ever heard." Jack spent many an hour in lonely bars, listening and talking with Roy, and just "taking it all in." Roy asked Jack to write a song for him, which ended up being the title cut on Roy's acclaimed album THAT'S WHAT I AM HERE FOR, which was a great thrill for the young Jack .After years of "dues paying," Jack moved to Nashville in 1998 for 6 years, to hone his writing and playing skills, and "learn from some of the best." He had an analog studio, which he still uses, where he played the tracks and produced hundreds of "demos" for other writers, including Hall Of Fame songwriter Don Wayne, whose friendship and expertise he cherished. Jack collaborated with many fine writers, including Jon Robbin, who has penned two no.1 hits in his career. Jack also played his songs, and backed up other writers, at many a Nashville haunt, such as the famous Bluebird Cafe. Jack presently lives in Maryland, but travels to Nashville almost every month to co-write, record, and play at writer's venues. He hopes to move back to Nashville, when circumstances allow. For now he is enjoying playing solo and in bands, writing, and living his dreams. He also plays his guitar in Church every Sunday, which he quips is his "best gig." He says that he is "just thankful to be in the game." He is proud of the ancient Bond family crest, "Orbis Non Sufficit," or "The World Will Not Suffice."
