Hats Off Gentlemen It's Adequate are Malcolm Galloway (vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer) and Mark Gatland (bass, backing vocals, keyboards and co-producer), on their own, or with Kathryn Thomas (flute) and other guests. They are based in London, UK.
Malcolm and Mark have been playing together since they were at school. Malcolm and Kathryn are married (to each other). Their recent album also included spoken word and backing vocals from their children James and Ethan Galloway, and James co-wrote two of the tracks.
Their music combines progressive rock, classic rock, acoustic, blues, metal, folk, funk, minimalism, and electronica, and often explores scientific and philosophical themes.
Hats Off Gentlemen It's Adequate came to national attention in November 2017 when they were last minute replacements for a band with a broken arm on the main stage of Hard Rock Hell’s Prog Festival, opening for Magnum, Focus and Carl Palmer, and playing to over 1000 people. They were described by Hard Rock Hell magazine as ‘unlikely stars who stole the show’, and by eFestivals as the highlight of the festival. They regularly play at leading London venues and regularly put on charity gigs (including for Save The Children, Cancer Research UK, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Ehlers-Danlos Support UK, and Brain Tumour UK). They have been broadcast on over 50 radio stations/shows/podcasts.
The lead video from their first album Invisible has been broadcast on over 70 television channels, including channels in the UK, Canada, South Africa and USA. Their second album ("When The Kill Code Fails") was recommended by Steve Hackett (Genesis) and was awarded Beasties Rock Show's Prog Album Of The Year Award. They were shortlisted for Radio Wigwam's Single Of The Year award, and were finalists in Banks Radio Australia's awards in the best album and best producer categories.
