In The Alley (diner slang for "on the side") started as a side project for Rosana Costello (Cross Current), Catherine Beairsto (Monroe Street), and Tim Brewer (Blackstone). Originally intended as a pop-up group performing one time only in July 2017, we decided it was too much fun to stop and have been expanding our repertoire and performing in various local venues ever since.
Our mission is to present fresh, varied, spirited, vocal arrangements – we love harmonizing and backing each other up vocally. Instrumentation includes acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, octave mandolin, harmonica, cajon, conga and a variety of other percussion instruments.
Our repertoire includes originals by band members, and a mix of covers by various artists, including b.w. Krehbiel (RIP https://soundcloud.com/bwkmusic), as well as the occasional classic that's too good to resist. The musical genres are varied but we always aim to present the material with a fresh approach and high spirits.

The songs on this site were recorded in early 2025 with local artist David Jacobs-Strain (https://davidjacobs-strain.com/) in his gorgeous home studio. In addition to producing, recording and mixing our album, David also provided additional instrumentation (bass, guitar, and percussion). This effort resulted in 10 fresh recordings which include six originals and four covers. We thank David for his expertise and guidance, for his kindness and generosity, and for lending his excellent ear and musical talent to our songs.
