“Bright beaches and laidback vibes aren’t synonymous with Chicago or the music it inspires. Most bands have been gravitating towards the raucous punk hooks or cultivating their own take on the classic rock sounds of the late ‘60s early ‘70s, but warm vibes are quickly blowing in from the nearby suburbs. Tinley Park act, Hitsleep is channeling easy-going surf and sunshine with jam band charm and reggae melodies. Vocalist A.J. Skrabis’ husky croon bellows under Hayden Zegley’s funky and loose, electric guitar and Mike Daly’s almost samba-like bass grooves. Drummer Dave Patterson roughs up the edges, but holds the beat steady as tracks like “The Jam Song” unfold similarly to Sublime or early 311. Whether you’re dancing, skating, or relaxing on the couch, Hitsleep’s ska-nuevo blend of pop punk is sure to make you feel like you’re baking (or baked) in the sun. The Chicago winter is going to be rough, so why not warm up with some totally infectious jams?”
