Thu, Jun 18 - 8pm - $10 Greyhounds As Greyhounds, guitarist Andrew Trube and keyboardist Anthony Farrell have been making music and touring for 15 years, refining and developing a sound Trube calls “Hall and Oates meet ZZ Top.” The band also has long ties to Memphis, home of the soul that inspires them.Ardent Music, the independent record label based out of legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, expects to build on the fanbase the band has developed both on the road and as a staple of the Austin music scene. Label director Reed Turchi says, “We committed to three albums not only because we believe in these guys, not only because they’re great musicians and songwriters, but because they’ve been incredibly prolific.” “We’re always writing,” Trube says. “We’ve got songs for eight albums.”Ardent has had a long and productive relationship with Texas music: Studio C was designed for ZZ Top, which called Ardent Studios home for many years, and Stevie Ray and Jimmy Vaughan recorded Family Style in the famous brick building on Madison Avenue.The first ‘hounds out of the gate will be Accumulator, scheduled for a March 2014 release. The album will combine cream-of-the-crop tunes the band’s devoted followers pass along to the uninitiated with new, previously-unreleased tracks. BS Brass Band The B.S. Brass Band was formed in 2000 by Mike Hogg (sousaphone/leader) and Jason Thor (trombonist with the Brian Setzer Orchestra). After attending a brass band show in Chicago, they realized that this town is ripe for forming a group capable of producing a big, tight horn sound with that infectious New Orleans second-line groove. Rooting themselves in the Dixieland tradition, they began playing venues big and small for audiences hungry to hear everything from Jellyroll Morton to James Brown. 2005 saw the release of there first feature CD “Two for the Show” (pick one up and you may find out what the B.S. stands for!). B.S. has appeared with Dr. John, the Wild Magnolias, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Re-birth Brass Band, Nathan and the Zydaco Cha-Cha’s, and Mojo and the Bayou Gypsies to name a few. Alice Drinks the Kool Aid Alice Drinks the Kool Aid is a Blues-based Chicago Indie Rock Band founded in a Park Ridge basement in 2014 as a creative outlet for three life-long musician friends. The Drummer, Jim Widlowski, is a top session player in the city and has anchored many of the Broadway production that have come to the City over the last 20 years. The Bassist, Alan Berliant, is a peerless performer who makes his living as a composer of commercial music of all styles. The guitar and vocal responsibilities are managed by Tony Magee, the founder of The Lagunitas Brewing Company. The band's original material is written and arranged by all three members in congress and draw from the deepest free jazz and the most fundamental influences in rock and blues.
