“Artist Interview: Gary Reed Tell us about yourself and your music Gary Reed’s music is an intriguing mix of fingerpicking guitar playing, reminiscent of the finest 1960’s blues guitar players, and heartfelt lyrics that tell tales of love, loss and longing in the best tradition of John Hiatt, Jerry Jeff Walker and other noted tunesmiths. Little wonder Reed was a regular player at New York’s Bitter End, Folk City, Café’ Wah and Max’s Kansas City during the ‘60s and ‘70s before moving to San Francisco and becoming a regular on that festival scene. He has opened for some great players such as: Jerry Jeff Walker, Billy Joel, Randy Newman, Joe Walsh and Jeremy Steig. Talk to us more about your latest release My current recording project is a departure from my previous efforts. I come from a strong vocal harmony background and enjoy writing vocal arrangements. So the new recordings feature a lot of vocal harmony and counterpoint. I also am putting more fun into my writing and ”

“Gary Reed Band is amazing. "The Story Untold" is a beautifully produced Americana song. Strong vocals, instrumentation and production. "Those Were The Better Days" is sensational. Eerie hook engulfed with cinematic sounds. "Too Far Gone" is a spiritual journey of a man on a road less traveled. Searing guitar coupled with gigantic lyrics. "Caroline Nevermore" is harmoniously constructed. Beautiful melodies and soulful vocals. "Give Me Your Love Tonight" is about a hopeless romantic seeking their soul mate. Powerful and heart wrenching lyrics. "I Can't Go On" is a tale of alienation. Potent lyrical content entrenched with top notch instrumentation and production. In short, Gary Reed Band is symbolic folk, Americana and alternative. This EP will captivate all of your senses. Great sound for an indie film or an HBO dramatic series. This ensemble's immense talent and creativity has landed them a spot on our#360WatchList.”

“Friday Night has never sounded so darn good! The wonderful guitar and vocals by the great Gary Reed; Rick Chance strumming that bass proudly and making every note count; and of course, the talented, always happy and obviously enjoying the talent that he posesses, Gary Oleyar playing the violin/fiddle like noone else can. We are in the presence honest and true muscians.”

“Reed’s vocals in live performances and in studio work are warm, genuine and real. They operate as accurately as an arrow on a compass that locates the softer part of the psyche. His original songs reveal something of the observer and chronicler of human nature operating at his core. Within reach of Reed’s gentle, unassuming demeanor a listener relaxes and sheds burdens, perhaps somehow feeling more comfortable in the spot where love either finds us - or leaves us… whether that spot is standing together at a crossroads where neither sun nor moon casts a full spectrum of light light (“When Shadows Fade”)…or empty, alone, and on the edge of an abyss. Yet, even the edge transforms through the power of music, into a journey along a country road heading South towards the nearest True North gas station for a refill and some badly needed soul repair.”
