Gandy Dancers
Kevin Danzig & The Gandy Dancers Rockin’ Bluegrass and Rollin’ Folk Some bands play bluegrass. Some bands play folk. Kevin Danzig & The Gandy Dancers call it “Rockin’ Bluegrass and Rollin’ Folk.” From the mountains of Colorado’s Vail Valley, The Gandy Dancers bring together Americana, bluegrass, modern folk, and roots music into a sound that feels both timeless and fresh. Whether performing award-winning original songs or thoughtfully chosen covers, the band creates music that invites audiences to listen, sing along, and dance. In a world increasingly dominated by programmed beats and synthesized sounds, The Gandy Dancers offer something genuine—seasoned musicians gathered around great songs, rich harmonies, and the joy of making music together. The band is led by singer-songwriter Kevin Danzig, whose career has taken him to all 50 states and stages around the world. In 1992, Kevin and his band, Kevin Danzig & The Heard, toured U.S. military bases throughout the Mediterranean before representing the United States at the World Expo in Seville, Spain. Along the way, he has fronted projects including the classic rock trio Buzz Drivers and the folk duo Danzig & Woolley while releasing eleven studio albums of original music that continue to reach listeners around the world. Casey Boyd is one of the Vail Valley’s most respected musicians, bringing expressive banjo playing, harmony vocals, and an infectious sense of fun to every performance. Peter Fontanese, a veteran of Colorado’s club and private event scene, anchors the band on bass with decades of experience, tasteful musicianship, and a reputation as one of the region’s most dependable performers. The Gandy Dancers began almost by accident during the winter of 2022. After hearing Kevin perform, Casey introduced himself and suggested they get together to play. Kevin invited him to sit in at a show at The Sebastian Hotel in Vail with just two songs to prepare—Bob Dylan’s Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right and John Hartford’s Gentle on My Mind. Casey fit in so naturally that he stayed for the rest of the evening, and the chemistry was undeniable. When Peter Fontanese later joined on bass, the trio found its signature sound, and The Gandy Dancers were born. The band’s name comes from both a favorite ski run in Vail and the historic nickname for the railroad workers who built America’s railroads by hand. That railroad heritage naturally finds its way into the band’s repertoire, where songs of trains, travel, work, and home sit comfortably alongside original compositions and inventive reinterpretations of classic songs. While the trio is the heart of the live act, Kevin Danzig & The Gandy Dancers also record and perform on larger stages with longtime collaborators Steve Van Beek on piano and Larry Dutmer on drums, expanding the band’s sound with additional depth, energy, and musical color. Following the release of 8 Tracks in 2024, the band is currently recording a new album scheduled for release this fall. Along with new original songs, the project will feature inventive cover mash-ups that have become audience favorites, including “Stairway to Freebird” and a psychedelic pairing of The Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows” with Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit.” Whether performing as a trio in intimate venues or expanding to a larger stage with additional musicians, Kevin Danzig & The Gandy Dancers deliver memorable songs, engaging stories, and musicianship that reminds audiences why live music still matters. Rockin’ Bluegrass and Rollin’ Folk—music rooted in tradition, inspired by the road, and always moving forward. Contact: Kevin Danzig (970)389-5026 DanzigKevin@gmail.com
