Back by popular demand....The Ebony Big Band will perform again during Black History Month next year in the Urania.e. V. under the direction of Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq. During Black History Month next year, February 26, 2016 at the Urania Thearter e.V., "The Ebony Big Band" will represent the music and bands of the era between 1920s – 1950s. We will tell the story of the emergence of African-American culture during this era through the music of such greats as Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Bessie Smith, Count Basie, Fats Waller, Anna Mae Winburn, Fletcher Henderson, Jelly Roll Morten, Lena Horne and Benny Moten, not only through the music but also through narration, dance and multi-media presentation of pictures and videos. This era in history all coincided with the Marcus Garvey movement, W. E. B. DuBois's Pan African Movement, and the development of African American literature known as the Harlem Renaissance, which at that time was known as the "New Negro Movement". http://www.arton.de/concer…/Ebony-Big-Band_2016-02-26_Berlin
As some of my fans may or may not know I have been out of the music scene for a few months due to an emergency open heart operation that I had back in April of this year. It was a long rehabilitation for me which I am still under-going but I will be performing with my group for the first time since then. We will be featuring the music and compositions of Joe Zawinul, Ornette Coleman, Horace Silver, Kenny Martin and from myself. I'm looking forward to seeing all my friends and fans. It promises to be a very musical and enjoyable evening and you don't want to miss this concert presented by 5 of the "Greatest Unknowns Ever Known"
