Ethereal / Press

“Expectations are immediately higher when you sample the King Of Pop. But, when you’re GA spitter Ethereal and you’ve been posted in a wheelchair since day one, overachieving is just a way of life. After a birth defect restricted his ups, this recent signee to Yelawolf’s Slumerican label focused his energy on rhyme and now carries confidence throughout slick songs like “See Her Exit With A G.” A slowed-down interpolation of MJ’s “Baby Be Mine,” with enhanced guts and screwed-up ad-libs, this stand-out from his upcoming Abstractica release proves two highly-contrasting elements can indeed coexist if properly done. In more ways than one, actually.”

“We featured Atlanta-based Ethereal earlier this month when he released his latest single, the blunted-as-fuck "In My Honor." The track will appear on Abstractica, the rapper-producer's forthcoming effort on Yelawolf's Slumerican Records imprint. Also included on the album is "Ultralord," a cut that features Ethereal and fellow ATLien KeithCharles Spacebar getting their psych-rap on. It's cut from the same woozy, drugged-out cloth of the Bay Area's based music phenomenon. But there's something far jazzier and looser about "Ultralord" that makes it difficult to narrow down. Don't be surprised if you catch a contact high.”

“The official release for Ethereal's upcoming album Abstratica is set for June 11 and will be released via Yelawolf's Slumerican Records imprint. Ethereal has been killing it in the underground for some time now — with solo projects known for chill soundscapes — and also as half of the lesser known 8-bit duo Optimus Pikachu. His upcoming album features appearances from Yelawolf, Rittz, Opio of SOM, Kosherbeets, and none other than Hal Williams of OFWGKTA/Jet Age of Tomorrow. Mark my words: We'll be hearing big things from Ethereal in the near future, things that could turn a page in Atlanta's hip-hop scene. For a taste of what he has in store, check out the single "In My Honor" available for free download on bandcamp.”

“I'm admittedly a few days late here, but it wasn't until this afternoon that someone brought this to my attention. Apparently, Yelawolf has been keeping extra busy lately as the head of Slumerican Records. The roster, which includes Prefix favorite Rittz, has been expanded to include Atlanta-based rapper-producer Ethereal. Fans of the city's DIY rap-realm have been hearing his spacey, psychedelic beats and blunted bars for a little while now. But now it appears that the rest of the country (and world) is about to catch on. Ethereal is readying his full-length Slumerican debut, Abstractica, for release this June. And it's set to include some pretty killer features. His boss, Yelawolf, will be spitting some bars along with labelmate Rittz. Additionally, expect to hear from Opio, of Souls of Mischief, and Hal Williams, of galactic production crew Jet Age of Tomorrow. You might know Jet Age for being associates of Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All.”

“Here’s something for the production-minded folks out there. Ethereal’s second entry into his mostly-instrumental “No Saliva” series is a kinetic and wide-ranging project. It uses samples from all corners of the known musical universe and sends them out into the great beyond. When they come back they’re transformed, as if by gamma rays, into something completely different. It may not be the country rap tunes that BLVD ST readers have come to expect, but it’s a very interesting album from a really talented up-and-coming producer out of Atlanta. Give it a listen here or at Ethereal’s Band Camp site, where you can also check out more of his stuff for the cost of zero dollars.”

“The start of 2011 has seen a few new releases from local artists via their bandcamp pages. One such joint comes from emerging beatmaker Ethereal. No Saliva Vol. 2 appears to be an ambient exploration of classic R&B/soul, as heard on such tracks as "Dapper Dan," "Love and Happiness," and a memorable chilled version of Michael Jackson's remixed "Rock With You." Released in conjunction with locally-based music blog Greedmont Park, the mixtape isn't all chill grooves as it picks up a bit with "Ethermonstar," an especially noteworthy track because it has the womp-womp vibe of dub, but stripped-down and void of the heavy bass drop, giving it a soft, impactful sound. Also noteworthy: "Big Bluff," a dirty, little track that features raw snare snaps intermingled with soft brass horns. For those who like to blaze, err, chill out, No Saliva delivers on its promised "adventure in soundscapes."”

“Ethereal was selected as one of the 'Best Music Releases of 2010' on Frank 151!”

“Nice instrumental/edits mixtape. A little uneven (for my taste) – a bit too long and I don’t like the parts where the drums go into overt drum-n-bass territory, but the highlights of it are very strong and more than make up for any shortcomings. The first track and the Bluebird/Rock With You coupling are godly.”

“For the New Year, we decided to bless ya’ll with the second installment of the ‘No Saliva’ beattape series. The wheelchair bound mega-producer/DJ, Ethereal, brings you Greedmont Park presents No Saliva Vol. 2, a down-tempo mixtape designed to make you feel good with his super fast percussion, haunting synths and concrete sampling. It’s a complete eargasm. No Saliva is a series of mixtapes we teamed up to create last August to inspire artist, and help get them in the mood while they get to work in the studio, on the street or in school. This collection of ambient tunes is perfect for the habitual marijuana smoker and smokette. Happy 2011. Enjoy. [Produced and Composed by Ethereal, Cover art by Corey Davis]”

“With an eclectic sound and alluring personality, I got a chance to talk one on one with on of my favorite people, Atlanta producer Ethereal via #Skype. Chatting for about an hour, Ethereal shared some of his personal insites with me about his music, his inspirations and his mother, Glenda. Meet the wheel-chair boy wonder, (which he calls himself) Ethereal.”

“ETHEREAL at Fadia Kader and SMKA's 'A3C Hip Hop Festival' documented by 'Thanks, Computer'. HD Video.”

“Ethereal has been eliciting eargasmic, celestial rhythms through his projects. Recently honing the craft of lyricism, the wheelchair boywonder is a double threat to be aware of. He’s been making consistent noise from his “Attack From The Sky” podcast to his GreedmontPark collaborative tape “No Saliva“. Ethereal is gradually making his mark, but don’t jump on the bandwagon later. See him perform on October 7th.”

“Gearing up for his “Real.Good.” sampler, Ethereal has been dropping releases from the project frequently. The producer has been honing his lyricist skills, and the outcome is eargasmic. Check out the latest tracks from the project here. Real. Good. *SAMPLER* by Ethereal”

“After listening to this tape, it’s clear now that Ethereal is a musical genius. His eargasmic melodies & tracks make the project well worth the listen from beginning to end. Ethereal states “This is an Ethereal adventure tape for all of the visual artist out there who enjoy creating to spacey audio operas.” “Greedmont Park [...]”

“...so I'm listening to the latest by Ethereal, No Saliva Vol. 1, and my brain is going what the f**k is this!? I'm not quite sure how to categorize this album, so therefore I won't try. The vibe is very relaxing, yet frenetic, while the cover is very indicative of the sound. Listen for yourself and let me know, because the only thing I'm certain of is it's pretty dope.”

“The homie Ethereal has been doing his thing for a minute now, with stacks of free music at his Supernatural Bandcamp site. This song, from his upcoming “Real Good” EP is some of that purp on the perimeter music that I love to hear from up and coming Atlanta artists. Introspective Minds handle the production. You know what to do to this one, folks.”

“Another leak from Ethereal’s upcoming project “Real Good” dropping October 31st..”

“Greedmont Park presents No Saliva Vol.1 by Ethereal, a down-tempo mixtape with a cohesive blend of 21 hip-hop, electronica, and jazz instrumental tracks. Ethereal is a producer infamous for his use of samples combined 16-bit synthesizers and bass heavy percussion. Usually, I prefer to listen to this type of music while creating art, because its ambient loops leaves me room to focus; since it’s not overly cluttered with narcissistic lyrics and rambunctious ad-libs. The perfect “chillout” soundtrack for your artshow, lounge or cafe, it features exclusive remixes from Bosco, Mach Five, and Sye Spence. Ethereal states “This is an Ethereal adventure tape for all of the visual artist out there who enjoy creating to spacey audio operas.””

“I still haven’t heard anything from the band Paramore. As a dude who is about to turn 30 this year, I’m decided that I’m just simply in the target market for teenage angst. However, I digging this remix by Atlanta producer Ethereal. This subtle drum and bass take on the song “Playing God” is a nice rework, switching out the rock guitars for gentle keys, making Hayley Williams’ voice sound ever more soulful. Check it.”

“Ethereal drops another preview from his upcoming project titled, “Real Good”.”

“How are you today, this week and this year, so far? Today I am great. This week I have been better. This year is going to be hella prosperous for me. Lots of hardships, but you know that makes the prize even better. For those who don’t know tell us a little bit about yourself: Word. What’s up everyone? I am Obie, and I produce under the moniker Ethereal pronounced “Ehh-theer-eall” means “Of or relating to the regions beyond the earth, suggesting the heavens or heaven“. I’ve been producing and emceeing since I was 16 now I’m 20 and 3/4ths. see more....”

“Emerging in the Atlanta scene is the big homie Obie and his one man band Ethereal (yes, just him). His unique sound makes him stand out from that other wack shit people call music. With ALL ORIGINAL MUSIC, Ethereal is a Must Watch in 2010, Here is Ethereal’s track – 8ig 8ad 8ig 8ad – LimeLinx Oh yeah, there tape is FREE .illectric ”

“Boldaslove caught up with Atlanta Electronic musician Ethereal. Originally from College Park, GA., Ethereal took time to talk with me about his sound and his projects just before playing a show at Apache Cafe in Midtown Atlanta.”

“Producer Ethereal tackles Brittany Bosco’s gorgeous track “It Was You” and delivers an equally beautiful remix that swirls the song into a tripped out drum&bass flavored journey. Download below. “Greedmont Park teamed with Billy Clint to present Ethereal’s latest sound scape No Saliva. Ethereal dubbed the project an “adventure tape” noting it’s for “all of the visual artist out there who enjoy creating to spacey audio operas.” The 21 track tape, features instrumentals the jump effortlessly from jazz, hip-hop and electronic. Remixes of tracks by Mach Five, Sonnymoon & Sye Spence also pop up. Take a listen and download No Saliva Vol 1 below.”

“Check out this cool podcast from Ethereal! The dnb flavored mini mix takes us through an Ethereal original, into Drake’s ‘Miss Me’, and finally to the Ethereal remix of MACH5′s ‘That Night’. “At the bright age of 20, Ethereal has pounded out a double time beat with tons of stutters and bounces. He's used a combination of Reason 4, Ableton 8, and Max MSP to concoct this bit. ATL represent. http://supernatural.bandcamp.com”

“I first discovered Ethereal as one half of a rap duo called “NWK” (New Ways of Komprehension) but then later i found out he is a producer. His latest album “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Tape,” is a collective fusion of 90′s video game samples, heavy drumnbass, fast percussion, and mellow downtempo rhodes keyboards. Ethereal produced one of the dopest joints on A-Ware’s “Please stand by” EP. Look A-Ware up seriously he’s one of the illest mc’s coming out of Atlanta in my opinion. Recently, Ethereal hooked me up with a link to his bandcamp page and his music it’s totally my vibe, It’s experimental, trip hop, and instrumentalism all wrapped up into a supernatural experience . Check out some his music here www.supernatural.bandcamp.com ”

“Check out Atlanta based producer Ethereal’s Latest EP, it feels pretty good. Listen to and download it if you’re liking it.”

“The Electric Kool-aid Acid Tape, composed completely by Ethereal himself. Infusing our childhood sounds from video games, to spark interest in his listeners. Then he captivates them with a rhythmic melody along with the bass. Then finishes his listeners with Amens. Though his methods can be explained nothing is better than witnessing the magic itself. A few of my favorite tracks on the album are “7 Victories” ,“Organicha Relaxer System Engaged” and “Touch and Go”. Ethereal has made music for MachFIVE, A.ware, YelaWolf, Vibe Self, UK artist Lizzy B, and others.”

“MACH FIVE x ETHEREAL [MASH UP] by Ethereal, this joint goes pretty major, out of all the many mash ups of this song this is the more Eclectic, I worked with Ethereal on my last project ”Please Stand By” hes a monster period he has like 4 tapes available for download here, BANDCAMP catch him while you can !!!”

“Found Etheral's by chance, he has a pretty diverse range of work. Has about 8 albums out on bandcamp, wasn't really felling the others too much but .illement. it's dope. Very trippy soulful album, with some nice arrangements and samples. Posted the track above "Tea At The Treedome" as most of you should recognise the timeless samples used...DOPE!
