Using contrasting influences such as 16 Horsepower, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and Siouxsie & the Banshees with Bill Monroe, Loretta Lynn (the band covers her classic Fist City) and Memphis Minnie, the HEATHEN APOSTLES have created a style of music that at once conjures both angels and demons, and will enlighten a darkened soul. The constant output of songs and videos capture the essence of the Heathen Apostles modus operandi: Southern gothic imagery surrounded by haunting, minor-chord melodies, musical influences including Gothic, Bluegrass, Blues, and Gypsy Jazz, all deftly bound together by the band’s dark and sometimes brooding sense of a bygone age. The new Evil Spirits EP, as well as 2015’s Fool’s Gold and Death’s Head singles, 2014’s Without A Trace EP, and their debut album, 2013’s Boot Hill Hymnal are out now on Ratchet Blade Records. Their second album Fire to the Fuse will be released on Halloween of 2015. Chopper and Mather will be doing some special shows this Fall as the Heathen Apostles Duo, performing unique versions of their classic dark country set. “Dry County Drinkers - These Kats are something else. Their songs were funny, and I laughed and laughed. I looked over at Cherie at one time and she had her head down and her shoulders were shaking–and she was not crying. I just plain had fun. Each member worked at their job, they screamed–singing, at each other, at the crowd, and we screamed back. All I can say it that I have never enjoyed such a large assortment of drinking, let’s get drunk and screw, let’s screw and get drunk, I’m too drunk to screw, and let’s get drunk and drink songs in my life! The Dry County Drinkers are my recommendation for the Twisted and Wild Ass Honky Tonk Group of the Year Award! I might also add, that as an ex-photographer and graphics guy, I do appreciate their use of lots of pictures! - for the entire review click below! ”
