Western Swing returns to the Festival in a big way with the first-ever appearance of Lost Weekend. This remarkable band goes all the way back to 1985 in San Francisco’s iconic bluegrass club Paul’s Saloon. Leader Don Burnham started the group as a quartet, and over the years there have been many iterations of the band, even up to as many as a dozen members. Throughout their long and successful history, Lost Weekend has always been dedicated to preserving and furthering the Western Swing genre. Their popularity on the West Coast is a strong as ever, and we’re happy we could convince them to venture into the Mountain Time Zone. Once you hear them, you will be too. “LW Live review, translated from the Swedish - "Carson Robison's classic Carry Me Back to the Lone Prairie where the vocals are handled by Don, Bruce Stelter and Rick Dougherty. These men have been influenced by the Sons of the Pioneers - you can almost hear the crackle of the campfire. ... I was drawn to Duke Ellington's Caravan with stunning solos from takeoff guitarist Mark Holzinger in absolute top form. ... Don paired together Bobby Black and Vance Terry on steel, along with Jeremy Cohen, fiddle; and Steven Strauss, bass and vocal trombone. Must be heard! The song is Rose Room and I get Charlie Christian in mind. Very beautiful. ... [T]he CD's title song, Don Burnham's own Swingin’ Out West and Don writes; "I wrote this as an opener for the band in 1996. This live show was recorded at a Recent San Francisco concert celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Bob Wills." ... I can only say that it was worth the wait for these two Lost Weekend CDs.”
