About the Artist

Yes—the correct name is **Sherbrook Nursing Home**. I also removed the accidental opening text and blended the song’s history into your professional ReverbNation biography. Donald Alfred Morin is a Saulteaux/Cree/Métis singer-songwriter, musician, performer, filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist based in Edmonton on Treaty 6 territory. For more than four decades, he has brought together music, Indigenous memory, lived experience, spiritual reflection, cultural survival and social conscience. THE STORY BEHIND “DANIELLE’S HELLO GOODBYE MEDLEY” Donald originally wrote and recorded this song on Hi-8 tape around February 1994 for his son’s late mother, Danielle Pruski. At the time, Danielle was living at Sherbrook Nursing Home under very sad circumstances. Donald wrote the song out of love, concern and hope—as a way of offering her comfort and prayer through music. Many years later, he submitted the original song to the Sono music system, which produced the current full-band interpretation. The words, melodies, stories and emotional meaning come from Donald’s life and original creative work; the new musical arrangement and production grew from the material he submitted. The medley combines two of his original songs: “Hello Goodbye” and “Are You Satisfied?” “Hello Goodbye” reaches back to one of Donald’s earliest filmmaking experiences. When he was approximately 24 or 25, he worked as an extra in the film Hello Goodbye, made by filmmaker Robert Boyd and featuring actor Stephen Miller. Donald portrayed a Zorro-like character carrying a guitar and wearing a pencil moustache. Boyd also recorded Donald playing his guitar. The experience stayed with him and eventually helped inspire the song. At the time, Donald was living in a small bachelor apartment at 1750 Davie Street, Suite 604, in Vancouver’s West End. Although he and Danielle were separated, they remained devoted to their son and worked together to care for him. Danielle was an exceptionally hard-working woman, and they both loved their son dearly. “Are You Satisfied?” originated in Slow Down Orders, an episodic and archetypal play Donald wrote in early 1986. The play concerned a Red Queen determined to take control of society. Together, the two songs became a meditation on love, separation, faith, colonialism, consumer society and the way people sometimes pass one another without genuinely connecting. The medley asks a simple but important question: with everything modern life allows us to possess, are we truly satisfied? Can we buy love? Can we buy happiness? Or do love and happiness begin when we slow down, remain present and take the time to know our neighbours and friends? The final passage returns directly to Danielle with a message of tenderness, reassurance and faith: “Take care, sweetheart. No more crying. Be at peace with yourself, and know the Creator will be with you.” This deeply personal song is dedicated to Danielle, their son and the memories that music continues to carry.
