Hello, fellow singer/songwriters!
I've been doing this since I was fourteen, when I wrote a hymn for a stewardship project at my church.
I received so much acclaim that I had the confidence to begin writing poems, jingles, commercials, parodies and songs...I love the creative surge of coming up with catchy melodies and lyrics! As a middle school math teacher and guidance counselor for forty-three years, I have written numerous songs for school musicals, special events and building dedications, etc.. My senior year of high school I saw my first Elvis movies, Girl Happy and Clambake. I fell in love with the ballads and soft rock songs sung by the King! Sooo, I quickly wrote seven songs for Elvis' next musicals. My college roommate and I spent 1968 spring break driving down to Nashville to meet with Elvis' manager, Colonel Tom Parker....such naivete!
Busy with my career in education and getting married, I took a break from songwriting, until the 1985 I-70 World Series between the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals. The song was a big hit, featured on KMBC TV during the day's Series highlights! Many people even said it should be Missouri's new state song! And I'm still working on that now that I am retired. Earlier this year, I wrote a song honoring the Kansas City Chiefs' improbable run to the Super Bowl. Once again, KCTV 5 in Kansas City featured it during the playoffs, with each game's highlights. Then, this year, I was once more featured on Kansas City's KMBC and KSHB 41 TV channels with my Kansas City Royals anthem,'The Boys Are Playin' Some Ball!, celebrating their fantastic turn-around season.
I have a lot more songs coming down the pike...some oldies and some newbies! I hope you will be sure to check out each one...I assure you they will be melodic, catchy and memorable. And I must caution you...They may create 'ear worms' in the listeners...!!! Musically yours, DL
