I actually really have no idea were to find keyboardists in your area. However, before I began playing the keyboard about 4 years ago, I learned music as a classically trained cellist. After taking some piano classes in high school, I began to really enjoy the piano. Around this time my friends decided they wanted to get a band together, and the only rock instrument I could even attempt to play was keyboard. When I first started, I was terrible. But over 4 years of playing in bands, worship team at church, and learning synth and keyboard technique I can play in a metal band setting. One suggestion I have if you can't find a keyboardist and don't want to train one from the ground up is look for a talented pianist who can improvise and is willing to use sounds other than pianos and organs. If the pianist has the skills, it is just a matter of learning the equipment of the keyboard (figuring out how to set up patches to change them quickly) and keyboard specific techniques such as pitch bend and modulation. Search the internet for threads on keyboard technique. They aren't many though I also learned some techniques for keyboard from Dream Theater keyboard books. Thats the best I have, but I think it will give you some ideas -Drew J (Leviathan)

Hey, thanks for the comment. We have finally just begun to finish mixing down our final tracks and have started to really go public so every compliment is very encouraging. You guys have some great sound as well! You asked about going more progressive. I will tell you one thing, if you are interested in going more progressive, you may want to consider finding a good keyboardist. Having one can really spice up the music and set you apart from other metal bands. The keyboardist should be willing to use a bunch of different sounds for each song including organs, synth leads and pads, piano, strings, and other random instruments and sounds. Learning how to write and sound good in strange time signatures is difficult at first, but keep trying and the possibilities will soon be endless. Hopefully within the next week, we will have our instrumental song available on our profile. This really showcases our progressive style and has riffs utilizing a bunch of time signatures including 5/4, 6/4, 7/4, 7/8, 6/8, 5/8, and finally 4/4. Mostly you just have to be willing to do what may be hard for the band to do musically and learn how to play that style. If you want to listen to some other cool progressive bands, I would suggest Skies Over Bethany and Dream Theater, which is our greatest influence. Im glad you enjoyed our music and if you want anymore advice, you know how to reach us. We may change our name within the next day or two, but I will send you a message with our new name. -Drew Jeffrey (Leviathan)
