"The songs have lovely melody and very nice folk chords. I first noticed that they felt haunting with an honest quality to them. I can imagine how Stravinsky would hear them. The folk pieces of any culture are a sort of backbone. I mean that one can hear and relate to them on many different levels. It can be played and listened to on a very plaintive grass-roots level and they can be related to on a deep mature universal-voices-in-your-head level. Good pieces of music work in this manner."
